-MayChapter 2 Chapter 3No matter how much he felt bad at his demeanor towards her yesterday, he felt he had to keep being the opportunist, arrogant jerk she thought he is. If he suddenly changed tracks, he was very well aware of the outcome. But then, mistakes were already made and he had to amend them.
"You have become quite bold, Miss. Kashyap.. " he whispered, in his deep baritone, shaking her senses to the core. Narrowing her eyes, she bellowed. She could feel herself melt in his unwavering gaze, his long precariously unsettling stare piercing like a polished knife straight through her heart.
"I am immensely curious about your thoughts at this moment, though, I'll have to let go." A sly smile played on his lips.
"Huh?! "
He moved close to her, she could feel his breath as he whispered calmly in her ear.
" You wouldn't want the person beyond the main doors to misunderstand, would you?"
" What do you mean? "
"The door bell has been ringing for about five minutes now."
A sudden realision dawned on her, his velvety, smooth voice echoing in her mind.
Dropping her hands to her sides, she stared at his face, actualizing the situation and closeness.
He swiftly slipped past her, sighing heavily.
Shit! She cursed.
What was I thinking?...
Kabir almost ran to open the door.
"Ah, its you!" he chuckled. "Come on in."
"Kabir, you are laughing? Unusual indeed." Khurrana smirked.
"Nothing special."
"Yeah, we'll see about that." saying they both walked towards the study.
"We are meeting again, Miss. Kashyap." Inspector Khurrana said, extending his hand. She took it wordlessly and nodded knowingly avoiding Kabir.
Khurrana gazed at her overall appearance and couldn't stop himself from asking.
"If you don't mind me asking, did something happen? I mean you look - "
Ananya glared at Kabir for two whole seconds before replying. She was confident her tear stained, swollen face and eyes would sure create thoughts about her well-being. And the recent incident had left her blushing with embarrassment. She felt smacking herself real hard. What the
HELL was
I THINKING!!?
"It's just this stupid reporter has realized how much stupid she has been. "she said nonchalantly, facing the inspector.
Kabir had no idea if she had actualized herself or was a taunt aimed at him. He decided it would be better if the conversation veered towards meaningful matters.
"The reason I called you, it's about Dharam singh."
The next hour passed in a blur as Kabir intricately explained the sensitive case. They had to be cautious since the plan Kabir had in mind included a chunk of risks. Ananya groaned, realizing the complexity of the situation her father had got himself entangled into. No matter which way she tried to perceive it, there seemed to be no way out.
"This case, I remember. Roughly around eight years ago. It was my first ever major case to handle. " Khurrana said, sadly.
"Dad was always firm on his rules and morals. He always used to tell us - 'Never run away, no matter how much difficult it is' - He did the same. Facing the big bad world, head on. Unfortunately, he couldn't bear the stress... . " she trailed off. No, she didn't cry. She'd already done it plentiful. It was time for action.
"We understand your pain, Miss Kashyap." Khurrana said. "Knowing the person we are dealing with, it is necessary that we keep this operation to ourselves. If we are able to extract the evidence successfully, then we can decide on furtheractions.
You have this man, Ananya, " Khurrana said, patting Kabir " And let me see what I can do. You don't worry."
She pulled a forceful smile.
After Inspector Khurrana had left, she decided upon immersing herself in the case papers of her dad, though her mind kept flashing het idol's face, the proximity with which she'd confronted him.
Ignore. You simply have to ignore that man.
Ignoring him altogether would suffice and the deed she'd done some time ago, it was better to let it lay buried deep in ignorance rather than face the fiery wrath of Mr. Kabir Sharma. He preferred the same.
Glued to the screen of her laptop, she pretended not to notice Kabir sit besides her on the floor.
"Here." he said, handing her a coffee mug.
"Oh.Thanks." she replied, without looking up. " I have compiled all the articles regarding my dad along with those of that dimwit minister." She took a pause. "Thanks again."
"For what?"
"For helping an insignificant junior reporter in her personal investigations."
"It doesn't matter. Actually, I should be the one to apologize. I am really sorry. Yesterday, I wasn't in a good mood and all the frustration came pouring out on you. I didn't know you were in such a fix. I can make mistakes too.." he smiled. Finally he could say those three dangerous words to her.
"Where is kitchen?" She said suddenly, completely ingnoring his apology. He stared at her. He had wholeheartedly apologized to her and all she was thinking about was
FOOD! "Downstairs, on the left. "
"Good. Sorry to bother you like this, but I am really hungry. " she said as a matter-of-fact.
He took out his phone,"What do you want to eat? I'll order."
"There isn't anything? "
"You may find every raw ingredient required to produce an edible preparation but I seldom cook."
"In short, you can't cook."
"Wrong. Infact, I am exceptionally good at it."
"Then, cook for me."
"I would. But some other time. "
"That'll be your apology."
" Deal it is. "
He stared at her changed mood, smirking.
His phone beeped.
" Khalid! " he exclaimed. " Yes, I am coming over now."His face suddenly turned grave."Make sure you keep him engaged in talks until I come. I'll record his interview.
He turned to Ananya. "Khalid might call you. Your absence is quite noticed today. Another thing, NO ONE except you, me, Laxman and Khurrana should know about this investigation." He calmly took his coat, his face trying to mask a dreadfully dangerous thought.
She nodded.
"Instead of tomorrow, I'll be meeting Rajan today evening."
"I'll come with you!"
"
STAY! The situation is not as favorable as you think it is. I'll explain later. And
DON'T make me regret having warned you."
He left, leaving her alone and stunned at his sudden storm of words. Only to realize her phone ringing continuously from where she'd left in the study.
...To be continued...
