"I'm doing something different, err sorry that's an overused word. Shall I say hatke? Oh no, that's used often too. Ok, then let me say I'm doing something unique...." laughs Raj Singh Arora as he talks about Rattu, the character he plays in SAB's Four. Life's treating him great, he says but there's one thing that's blocking his vision — his long locks! "Yes, I want to chop them off," says Raj about his long hair that he's maintained for six years now. It was this look of his in Remix that made his character Yuvi so popular. "I want to have a fresher look. But I'm petrified as to how I'll look," he says. His fear stems from the fact that he's got a boyish look almost like that of a teenager and if he cuts off his tresses, he might look even younger. "Now I can play the role of a 23-26 year-old boy but if I cut my hair, I may have to play a 17-year-old." he smiles. Raj might be approached to play a young boy, but he's quite sure of what he's looking for in life. "I was born in Jammu, studied in Russia, then lived in Vishakhapatnam, Ooty, Pune and now in Mumbai. It's been a long journey, but I always knew I wanted to be an actor," he says confidently. But today when he looks back to the days when he had started off as a VJ, he thinks he has achieved more than what he had dreamt of. "Except perhaps one music video that I regret doing. It looked quite shady. But thankfully I've not seen it on TV till now, so I guess it must be doing the rounds of the underground DVD market in Punjab," he jokes. But on a serious note, he adds, "I have been approached for six shows. There's one character role that I really liked, it's that of a photographer. But I don't really know if I can do it." Does that mean he won't be able to carry off the role? "No, it's not that. What I mean is, I may not have the time," he clears the confusion, and again goes back to his humourous side and says, "After I cut my hair, they might ask me to play an apprentice photographer." (laughs) And what if he was approached for Big Boss? "I think it's for people who have nothing else to do," he says quite bluntly, pointing towards the fact that he's got his hands full. So what is he looking for now? "Maybe films someday." But before that, perhaps he needs to go for a haircut! |
