When I say Bombay Velvet has made records, I mean the ones which should be forgotten sooner than later...

Last Friday, Anurag Kashyap's highly anticipated directorial venture Bombay Velvet finally hit the theatres after much delay. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Karan Johar in the lead, the period drama was suppose to release last year but it didn't and the makers ended up pushing to 2015. The much-awaited big budget film made its way to the cinema halls on May 15 but it failed to get cash registers jingling. After witnessing a poor opening, BV fared terribly over the first weekend and ended up collecting only Rs 16.10 crore in first three days. With Bombay Velvet clocking in poor figures, the Ranbir-Anushka starrer managed to accomplish what many wouldn't even have imagined. And I mean that not in a good way. Confused? Well, check out the below facts and you'll know exactly what I am trying to say...

Bombay Velvet's weekend collection less than the first day collection of Besharam

Ranbir Kapoor's last release Besharam turned out to be a big dud at the box office. But despite that, the film managed to earn over Rs 21 crore on the opening day. As for Bombay Velvet, well, its opening weekend figures were not even close to the first day collection of Besharam. Now that's certainly shocking, hai na?

Ranbir's cameo in Roy also got cash registers jingling

Roy which released in February this year raked in Rs 28.68 crore in the opening weekend courtesy Jr Kapoor's presence in the film. However, the actor only had a cameo in this romantic thriller. But RK's star status worked wonders. Coming to Bombay Velvet, again the film couldn't even touch the Rs 20 crore mark in the opening weekend which is sad because after Besharam, all eyes were on BV.

Sunny Leone's Ek Paheli Leela made more money on day 1 than Bombay Velvet did

Another fact that will shock you is that Sunny Leone's Ek Paheli Leela made more money on day 1 than Ranbir-Anushka starrer. While Leela collected Rs 5.30 crore, Bombay Velvet grossed Rs 5.20 crore. Now I know there isn't much difference but RK and Ms Sharma are obviously more popular and have bigger star status than Sunny. So in that way, its a bit of a shocker, no?

Bombay Velvet took away the DISASTER' tag from Tevar

Arjun Kapoor's Tevar was touted as the biggest dud of 2015 until Bombay Velvet releases last Friday. But even Tevar earned over Rs 21 crore in its opening weekend.

Lifetime collection of Ranbir's film likely to be less than Piku's opening weekend collection

Lastly, while Deepika Padukone's Piku raked in Rs 25.22 crore over the first weekend, its highly unlikely that the lifetime collection of Bombay Velvet will surpass that figure. Now that one just says how badly the film has fared at the BO!
