From last 6 months or so I have been observing a very disturbing trend on Facebook. On almost every article that relate to womens exploitation/harassment/abuse etc, overwhelming majority of the comments and the most popular ones are those doubting women or her accusations or downrightly blaming them for misusing the laws and playing victim card. I have seen comments saying that maybe women enjoyed molestation and getting disturbingly high no. of likes. It all started with perhaps terming India as 'Rape Capital' of world by national and international media. Yes it was a gross overstatement, and many people were offended with the generalization as rapes in India were lower than many countries when you take into account its population. But what started as defense against this generalization grdually turned into an attack on women and their issues. Now comments on articles are so polarised against women that it is frightening. And I am not talking about 3-4 articles or exceptional cases. This is the general trend be it on marital rape, or dowry or exploitation. Has anyone else observed the same? Or more importantly is this thinking reflective of larger society too?

Enchanted, I definitely see these types of comments in News paper articles. But these comments are made by those persons who are fighting false cases made by their wives. The men who are fighting false dowry cases, false domestic violence cases and false rape cases have all come together and they are also raising their voices. It is possible this is slowly becoming the thinking of larger society also. In serials one can see a woman threatening to put false cases against her husband and in-laws. It is to be accepted those who are oppressed can fight back and they help others also fight.

Definitely there are women's issues and there are women harassed and abused. But then these issues are to be fought in a pragmatic way. Good feminists will tell what the Govt: is doing is not at all the right way to tackle these problems. The laws were already there with which women who had problems could fight. But when the judiciary in India is very much lazy and inefficient and no one could get proper justice, the Govt: went ahead and put some laws which are female centric and these laws began to be misused by many persons. Those who suffer false cases against them also seek justice which they don't get. if those who put false cases get stringent punishment, then only things will improve. And when the percentage of women who file cases based on these laws is alarmingly high, those women with genuine issues won't get justice as the suspicion will always be there. Even now women are also sufferers due to this system. When a woman files false case, she files against her husband, his old parents (at times his widowed mom who could more than eighty) and also against his brother, his brother's wife and their kids also. The judge has ordered old parents and less than five year old kids to be present. in the court. One can see females are also accused here. Another trend which is common is, women's cell entertains complaints only made by wife. Complaints by a mother or a sister are not taken up. Are they not women?

If the system in the country is such that the men who are engineers, doctors and other skilled personnel who could use their talents for the betterment of the country are forced to fight false cases and are dubbed criminals, how will the country improve? Everyone has issue has right to fight.

Whatever you said is happening is yes, reflective of the society. Upbringing is at fault. Also, people don't use their brains to think/use. No other reason here. But this collective rotten mindset can prove costly.
