Esha Deol

Doesn't failure bother you?
I come from a family where my father and mother have ruled the industry for years. My father always tells me about the importance of work and exhorts me to 'keep going on'. There will be some successful films and some failures. One should not get discouraged by failures.

But then it is success which matters ultimately. Isn't it?
True! It gives confidence to the artiste. But sometimes failures work indirectly in shaping your future course. You realize your mistakes. You only improve by rectifying your past mistakes and failures.

And there came appoint after several failures that you almost stopped signing new films. Why?
That's true. It is going to happen to any young person. After L.O.C., I didn't sign any new film, refused several films in that period. I had even refused 'Asambhav'. During that period I was trying to introspect I also learnt kick-boxing in that period and also worked hard on my dancing.

Would you have done the dare-bare scenes as in DHOOM for any other banner other than Yash Raj Films?
I wouldn't have done those scenes in 'Dhoom' for any other banner. I had total trust in Aditya Chopra and his banner. I knew he would present me in aesthetic manner.

Since you are very good at dancing, you must be enjoying song numbers with good dancing heroes like Hrithik and Tusshar.
That's absolutely true. When the opposite guy is good in dancing you too get very energetic. But when the star opposite you is not good in dancing, your job becomes irritating.

Honestly speaking are you happy with the kind of work you are doing?
Not at all. I am not happy with the kind of work and roles I am doing. Unfortunately, you rarely get single heroine projects where you get a chance to showcase your talent. People are mostly making multistarrers these days. But now I am in search of good powerpacked roles.

Which failed films hurt you the most? 'Na Tum Jano Na hum' and 'Yuva'. What is your experience working with Mani Ratnam?
He had signed me first for Tamil version of Yuva and after watching my work in that he signed me for the Hindi version. I tell you he is such a cool and super director that I hated word 'pack-up' on his sets. He is so punctual, so calm, so soft and supportive that you want to work with him again and again.

In which film your mother has liked your work? (Esha points her finger towards her mother, who is sitting besides her. Hemaji tells her choice).
It's 'Na Tum Jano Na Hum'.

Have you been approached for DHOOM-II?
No.

From among your next releases which film are your waiting for eagerly?
I am looking forward to Karan Johar's 'Kaal' for it's overall packaging.

Thanks for sharing, rouble. I agree with you, barbie---she has improved and is becoming more succesful, but she has a looooooooooooooooooooong way to go before she gets the type of recognition that Rani and Preity currently get.
