I think, he had kidnapped her as a revenge on anandi, not to marry her to their son. Once when nimboli was crying in her cradle, he told his wife not to call her bindni and that he got her married only on devima's instructions. He wanted to find another girl for kundan and was hoping to get at least Rs.2 lakhs in dowry. But devima instructed to marry kundan to nimboli.They also told this to kundan recently that they got him married to nimboli only because devi maa told to do so. Otherwise, she was no match for him.
