I only want to add this:SOCIAL issues are not isolated events that occur in a society: MINDSETS don't CHANGE with a few people. IT IS A MINDSET, it's about power relationships, it's about men and women and other genders who negotiate stereotypes about who and what they should and shouldn't be EVERY DAY.it's about people who DONT WANT TO FIT INTO GENDER BINARIES AND ARE FORCED TO DO SO EVERY DAY. It is NOT a day's affair. and it's DEFINITELY NOT the propping of EXTREMELY WEAK CHARACTERS simply DECIDING they are victims of 'patriarchy' (As if there is only one kind of power dynamic that influences women's lives)
I am sorry makers; I HAD a huge problem with 1. using LGBTQ liberal politics to not only trivialize the issues queers face every day but also to completely gloss over teacher-student relationships where teachers can easily manipulate students for their own needs.
Similarly, mukti, who has USED her sexuality in an empowering way for herself, in a selfish way to manipulate other, weaker people simply coz SHE wanted 'fun' or 'get over someone' is NOT RIGHT. JUST because she's a girl, it makes it okay for her to drive a guy to suicide, however indirectly?
WHAT she did was consensual, and while the bar issue and the jibes made to her NEEDED to be dealt with; THEY CANNOT BE USED AS GLOSSES FOR ISSUES THAT ARE FAR MORE RELEVANT, just because women issues are ' IN'.
It's humiliating, disgusting and reeks of exactly the SAME mindset this 'youth show' was not SUPPOSED to be about.
DEEPLY disappointed. It's insulting.
