Thank you!

I hated Pooja being portrayed as being a dull student in the show...as far as I know she is the most intelligent person portrayed in the showšŸ˜›!

I mentioned it in chapter 4, that she doesn't remember anything...she has recurring dreams and she thinks it was the same night.

Part 8

Chapter 9

"Pooja appa yarunu theriyathu."

What?

Did that mean that she was forced upon and...? Oh God! He didn't want to think about it, and he didn't because Pooja had woken up again and come to the room, breaking his thoughts with her question,

"Amma, thali poturuka?"

His eyes immediately locked with the woman he had tied it on and she on impulse had done the same. There was something in those eyes that gave him warmth, a feeling of completeness. He was so lost in her eyes that he didn't see the little progeny observe them with such scrutiny.

"Appa?"

He froze. He literally froze.

His eyes immediately darted to the little girl who was walking towards him now. Involuntarily he crouched to her height.

"Appa? Neenga thena ein appa?" she asked expectantly.

"Pooja?" he asked nervously.

"Ena sanda poteinga? Ethukaga neenga rendu perum pirinjiteinga? Ammava ethuku foreign poga viteinga? Ein ena theidi ivalo varusham varala?" she asked all the questions she had in one breath.

"Pooja?" he found himself tearing up and for some bizarre reason he felt actually responsible.

"Ada siringa pa. Ippo thaan seinthitomla. Enuma ena vitu pogavai kudathu. Promise?" she asked expectantly.

He let himself glance towards Priya, who was sitting on the floor dumbstruck looking at nothing.

"Promise Pooja. Appa eppovumai una vita poga matein," he said, amazed at how much natural the words came out of him.

"Thanks pa," she said pinching his cheeks.

He cupped her face and said, "Un dimples evalo azhaga irukunu theriyuma?"

"Unga dimples mathiri a pa?" she asked back.

He gave a little laugh, "Aama, appava mathiriyae."

"I missed you, pa."

"Sorry Pooja," he said placing a little kiss on her cheek.

He knew at that moment that Pooja would be his daughter and no matter what he would never let her go.

"Seri, sapadalama?"

"Ok pa!" she said gleefully.

Both of them turned to look at their binding force in the room. Arjun got up. Pooja walked towards her mother, grasping hold of her father's hand, making him walk along with her.

"Amma, sapadalama?" she asked shaking her shoulders.

"Huh?"

"Sapadalama?"

"Um. Poi fresh aitu va. Suitcase roomla thaan iruku," she said getting up.

"Ok ma," she said and darted to the room, leaving her parents to awkward silence.

The silence was unbearable as both their eyes continued their staring war.

"Food order pannanuma?" he asked, breaking the silence.

"Illa. Naan samachachu."

"Um." He pursued his lips not knowing what else to say.

"Pooja..." both of them started together.

He stopped and looked at her urging her to continue.

"Pooja va ithuka mela enala ematha mudiyathu. Naanga Dubai kai thirupi poidurom. Konjam nal azhuva, athuka approm palagidum."

He took a step towards her and sighed, "No."

"Ena?"

He took a deep breath before continuing, "Therinjo Theriyamalo namakula oru bandham uruvaiduchu. Purinjo puriyamalo Pooja vum atha eithukita. Pidicho pidikamalo nama seithuthaan valanum. Enaku ungala pathiyo, unga kadantha kalatha pathiyo ethuvumai theriyatha. Aana onu matum nala theriyum Pooja thaan unga uyir, unga ethirkalam. Antha ethirkalathila enayum...seithuka mudiyuma?"

She cried and smiled and cried again.

In a need to comfort her, he let himself embrace her. She let go off of all her boundaries and allowed herself to be in his embrace, lying against his chest, clutching the collar of his shirt and wetting it with her tears, his wounded hand resting on her back.

The clock on the room chimed and realisation hit her and she jolted away.

"I'm sorry. I...I shouldn't have...No. You deserve much better."

"We need to do this for Pooja."

"Illa...unmai theriyum pothu romba kashtam aidum."

"Try panalam..."

"Illa...I can't do this to you. I have already spoiled your life enough."

Sighing and turning away he said, "Seri ok. Dubai ku naan ticket book pani tharein. Aana Pooja ein kuda thaan irupa."

"Ena?"

"Naan Poojaku promise paniruken."

"Ava ein ponnu," she said her blood pressure rising.

He turned to face her and with eyes oozing honesty he said, "Ippolenirunthu ein ponnum."

Before she could argue more, he exited the room.

*****

She had freshened up. She twirled in her pink frock. She felt so happy. Finally she had both her parents to herself. She was about to enter the hall when she heard her father say, "Dubai ku naan ticket book pani tharein. Aana Pooja ein kuda thaan irupa."

She sighed. Oh God! These two were being impossible. If these two needed a push, then so be it, she would be more than happy to bring them closer. Oh and definitely she would make sure her wish of a little brother or sister came true. Smirking at herself, she went back to her room. There were clear plans to be made first.

*****

They were at the dining table with Priya serving them both and Pooja couldn't stop rolling her eyes seeing the adults in front of her glancing at each other when they thought the other was not looking.

These two definitely needed a push!

"Amma, appaku uti vidunga," she said innocently, before taking a bite off her mother's hand.

"Huh?"

Both of them looked at her as if she had just told them that she was going to get her nose pierced.

Swallowing her food she continued, "Appaku kaila adi paturuku la."

"Naan spoon la saptukurein Pooja," he said trying not to look at Priya.

"Ada summa irunga pa," she said leaning over and snatching over the spoon from his hand.

"Amma uti viduvanga. Ena thaan irunthaalum ena kapathum pothu thena ungaluku adi patuthu," she said, knowing very well her mother's weak point.

Before he could protest further, he saw Pooja bring her hand to force Priya to actually bring food towards him. He also saw in her eyes the readiness for withdrawal.

He parted his lips a little, ready for the best lunch of his life.

*****

For a plan made by a six year old, it had happened extraordinarily well. Her help was needed only for the first bite. She had even seen the level of comfort rise by the time the lunch ended and was satisfied. But, this was not enough. She definitely had to do something more.

She looked up from her iPad and saw her father talking on the phone and her mother washing the dishes.

When Arjun had finished his phone call, she asked, "Appa, Yaaru kuda pesitu iruntheinga?"

"Appa oda friend kita. Bangalore ku vara sonnanga. Naan yosichu sollurein nu sollitu irunthein."

"Bangalore a? Dubai la enaku oru friend iruka Bangalore la irunthu. Eppovumai Bangalore a pathi pesitai irupa. Anga Polam pa."

"Hm...polam. Ana un amma samathikanumai," he whispered, looking pointedly at her mother.

"Amma lan ok solluvanga. Neenga poi pack panuga."

"Nalaiku polam Pooja."

"Innaiku polam. Enaku night travel romba pidikum."

"Hm..."

"Polam pa, please," she said batting her eyelids and pouting.

By now, Priya was done with her chores and came to the hall.

"Enga poganum?"

"Bangalore ma," Pooja said happily.

She froze and Arjun noticed.

"Ethuku?" she asked in a low voice.

"Summa. Tour mathiri."

"Atha elam onum vendam," her blood pressure visibly increasing.

"Please ma."

"Vendamnu sollurein la."

"Amma..."

And for the first time in her life, she raised her hand.

Pooja winced.

"Amma?" she asked astonished to see her mother's hand frozen mid air, as if she had realized it at the last minute.

"Pooja..." she started slowly, ashamed at herself for losing control.

Pooja found herself tearing up. Crying she dashed to the bed room.

"Pooja," called out both her parents after her.

It was of no use. She had shut the door behind her.

Arjun gave Priya a look of disapproval before making way to the bedroom to console his daughter.

Priya slowly succumbed to the floor, not able to hold herself together anymore.

*****

"Pooja, inga paru ma," he said looking at the crying child who had buried her face in the pillows.

"Pooja..."

After a fleeting moment, she looked at him and around him. Satisfied of something, she got up and walked to the closed door and locked it. Thankfully the lock was to her height.

"Ena Pooja?"

"Sh," she said holding her finger to her lips, her tears all dried up by now.

He looked at her quizzically.

She walked towards him.

"Appa neenga pack pannunga pa."

"Pooja?"

"Enna pakreinga? Amma enum one hour la vanthu sorry ketu Bangalore pogalamnu solluvanga."

"Pooja?" he looked astonished at the smirking girl.

"Ein ammava pathi enaku theriyum."

"Athu seri."

"Appa, ungaluku amma va pidikuma?" she asked suddenly.

He looked a little taken aback by her question.

"Ethuku kekura?"

"Sollunga pa."

Not wanting to disappoint the little girl, he said, "Aama Pooja."

"Hmm...appo amma thaan prechana...ok ok."

"Ena?"

"Onu illa. Phone a thaanga, naan games play pannanum. Amma varathu veraikum intha room a vitu poga mudiyathu."

Arjun took his phone and gave to her.

She quickly opened Candy Crush and started playing the game happily as if there was no worry in the world.

Arjun got up and walked out.

He had some talking to do with Priya.
