Chapter 14

"Piyu tell him to go away" she said, in an emotionless tone, not looking at him anymore.

He stepped back, gasping soundly. His eyes lowered in defeat and the smile vanished within fraction of seconds. Looking at her one last time, he turned and left the room.

Piya looked at Khushi with disbelief written in her eyes. She expected her to hug him.. or at least cry seeing him. But she never expected such kind of cold response from Khushi.

Letting Dadi and Gautam meet her, Piya quickly went out of the room to look out for Arnav.

"Arnav?" she called out for him, heaving a sigh of relief on seeing him sitting on a bench outside the room.

"Is she okay?" he asked, panic rising inside him with the expression he saw on her face.

"Are you okay?" Piya asked him, moving a step forward towards him.

"I have been bad, Piya. So I don't have any right to oppose her. If she wants me to remain away, I will. What matters most at this time is that she remains happy.." he spoke, his voice trembling with the new-formed lumps in his throat.

"I can't believe this, Arnav" Piya stuttered, her eyes welling up to see the sudden change in his attitude.

A faint smile formed on his lips, "You go now, please."

He saw Piya's receding back, and again settled himself on the bench. Sighing, he closed his eyes and rested his head back on the wall behind him.

Subhadra hugged Khushi tightly, letting her cry on her chest. Tears filled her eyes too. She caressed Khushi's hair, patting her back to calm her down.

She laid unconscious on the entrance of the Raizada Mansion, her chin bleeding after hitting the ground because of the forceful push by Arnav. She was already too tired, and now that everything happened so quickly, she couldn't even understand what was happening with her.

The guard picked her up and made her lay down in the cabin near the gate, cleaning her chin with a cloth.

After like an hour, Subhadra came in the cabin along with Rajeev, Amit's business partner.

"Hum chahte hai ki aap Khushi ko kuch samay ke liye Delhi se bahar le jaye. Hum isko apne Nani ke saath Lucknow mein nahi rehne de sakte. Vo aisi halat mein nahi hai ki Khushi ki dekhbaal kar saken. Arnav abhi gusse mein hai, isliye kuch nahi samjhega. Jaise hi vo theek hota hai, hum aapko bata denge aur aap Khushi ko vapas le aana.." (I want you to take her away from Delhi for sometime. I can't let her stay in Lucknow with her grandmother. They are not in a state to look after her. Arnav is just too angry right now to understand anything. As soon as he gets back to normal, I'll tell you to get her back) Subhadra spoke to Rajeev.

"Maaji. Aap Khushi ki chinta na kijiye. Amit ne mere liye itna kuch kiya hai, toh main itna toh kar hi sakta hoon. Main Khushi ko Chandigarh le jaunga, vahan mera bhai rehta hai. Khushi vahan aaram se rahegi.." (You don't worry about her. Amit has done so much for me, I can at least do this. I will take Khushi to Chandigarh; my brother lives there. She will comfortable there..) Rajeev replied.

"Thank you beta" Subhadra touched his head, looking at still-unconscious Khushi.

"Aap mujhe sharminda kar rahi hain, Maaji. Humare liye jaise Arnav hai, vaisi hi Khushi hai.. Aur jahan tak Arnav ki baat hai, vo jaldi hi Khushi vo vapas bula lega.. Thoda vaqt dijiye usko." (You are embarrassing me, Maaji. Khushi is same as Arnav for us.. And as far as Arnav is concerned, he will surely get Khushi back to his house.. Give him some time.)

She smiled with teary eyes, caressing Khushi's forehead.

A throaty sob escaped her mouth, as she remembered how she had to send Khushi away, from the place where she deserved to be.

"Dadi.." Khushi whispered, raising her hand to wipe off Subhadra's tears.

"I am so sorry baccha" the elderly lady cried, holding Khushi's face in her wrinkled hands.

"Please dadi.. No.."

"I was not able to make Arnav understand. I was not able to stop him from sending you away. I--"

"Nahi dadi. Please.." Khushi covered her mouth with her hand, shaking her head frantically. She didn't wanted anyone to feel guilty.. no - not even Arnav. Her heart was too soft to take revenge against someone and hurt them.

Arnav came back to the corridor of Khushi's room after purchasing the prescribed medicines. It was three hours since he saw her.. and he missed her.

You didn't miss her when she needed you the most..

His insides screamed, ripping a part of his heart apart.

Be strong Arnav!

His inner voice ordered him, making him swallow a lump in his throat. He wanted to talk.. to anyone who would listen to him. There was so much inside him, that now it had started giving pain to him. And the pain was unbearable.. hurting his soul..

He sighed and went to give the medicines to Piya, instructing her about the schedule of giving the meds to Khushi, as told by the doctor.

"Arnav" Subhadra came out of the room, after talking for sometime with Khushi.

"Piya is here since last night. Why don't you stay here with Khushi?" Subhadra spoke.

"I--I don't have a problem-- but--" Arnav stuttered, unsure if Khushi would be comfortable with him.

Piya looked down, thinking about Khushi. It was true that she wanted everything to be alright between Arnav and Khushi, but seeing Khushi's mindset about Arnav recently, she wasn't sure if Khushi would like Arnav to be beside her.

"Look Piya. You don't have to think so much about it. It's okay.."

"No Arnav. It's okay.. You can be here for the night. Vaise bhi she's sleeping.." she assured him, flashing a comforting smile.

Arnav nodded and called his driver to drop Subhadra and Piya to Raizada Mansion, and himself went into Khushi's room.

The atmosphere in the room was depressing. The gloom in the air was suffocating him. He looked at Khushi's sleeping form, and a lone tear rolled down his cheek. It was the first time that he saw her properly, after all these years.

She's such an angel, a voice spoke inside him, as a faint smile covered his lips.

He took a t-shirt which his servant had brought for him, and walked into the washroom to change.

He came out and settled himself beside Khushi, staring at her face, as his mind was again clouded with innumerable thoughts. He himself didn't knew whether he was really guilty of hurting her..

He shook his head, shoving off his thoughts.

He got up and sat on the couch adjacent to her bed, stretching his legs to relax himself. He took out his phone and checked some mails. He hadn't gone to AR since a day after Khushi was admitted in hospital. At this time, of course, Aman acted at his backbone, managing everything in his absence.

After about fifteen minutes of working, he didn't knew when he dozed off, his head hanging loosely on one arm of the couch.

He got up with a start when he heard Khushi breathing really hard, as if she wasn't able to breath.

He quickly stepped towards the bed, instructing himself to be calm. He helped Khushi sit up, caressing her cold forehead.

"Pani.. please.. pani" she cried painfully, holding her neck.

Impulsively, he took hold of a glass kept beside her bed and brought it need her lips. She tried to gulp down some water, but started coughing, not able to drink water. He sided the loose strands of hair from her face and tilted her neck slightly upwards. Taking some water in a spoon, he slowly made her drink it.

"Relax" he whispered, rubbing her arm gently.

She looked away, shoving his hand aside. Without taking help from him, she somehow laid down on the bed by herself, hurting him in the process.

He looked down before going back to the couch, waiting for the sun to rise.. and hoping that the new day will solve everything.

Arnav's eyes scrunched as the sun's rays hit his sleeping form. He got up and yawned, looking at Khushi, who was wide awake and sitting on the bed with her back resting on the headboard of the bed.

"Good Morning Khushi" he spoke, finding a weird freshness in his voice.

"Sometimes I think, Arnav, that if I was there instead of Kaaka-Kaaki that day.. and if I had died, we both would have been so happy. You would have got your parents back and I would have gone to my parents.. We both would have been so happy.. so happy" she spoke with a dazed look, staring at the door and not looking at Arnav at all, leaving him astonished with the kind of thoughts that were coming into her mind.
