This is really not a good idea, the prevention, the awareness on this horrific issue should be done directly in India, at the local level.

It will only target India as the first destination for rape (which is actually the 5th). All my non-indian friends (woman and man) just don't want to go to India anymore, they have such a bad idea of the country. It's not about covering the crap, but the western media are only talking about that or Modi wearing 14.000 suit. Come on India has more to provide. Freida should be responsible on the image she is giving of her own country because she is seen there as an ambassador.

Big actors in India should launch with an NGO a tour campaign on respecting women in India. Go to big cities, small towns, villages, talk to people; stop cautioning dirty item numbers or any kind of objectivization. Some TV spots should be done too with them.

Most importantly, the Indian government should finally wake up. They have the responsibility to reverse the tendency. At least, I hope all the bad vibes on India will make them realize the bad reputation the country is seriously getting abroad.

I AGREE 100%... She should say how great India is. She should in fact scream out loud how women are treated with utmost respect. Every other country should take a note and use it as a utopian model

NEW DELHI: The interview of one of the convicts of Nirbhaya's gang rape and murder for a documentary by a British filmmaker snowballed into a huge controversy on Tuesday.

The government taking a serious view of the matter and seeking an explanation from Tihar Jail authorities and Delhi Police registering an FIR in the shooting of the interview. The police registered the case under Section 509 (outraging the modesty of women) and Section 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of trust) of the Indian Penal code.

Delhi Police chief BS Bassi said, "We urge the Indian media not to show it. Police moving chief metropolitan magistrate's court today to seek restrain from airing of the show."

The parents of the December 16, 2012 gang-rape victim reacted angrily to the remarks made by Mukesh Singh in the interview where he seeks to blame their daughter for the horrific incident, calling it shameful and demanded he be hanged. The filmmaker Leslee Udwin on her part said the film is her attempt to examine the attitude of men towards women and that there was nothing sensational in it.

Udwin also claimed she took permission from the then director general of Tijar Jail Vimla Mehra before interviewing Mukesh in the prison for BBC.

Nirbhaya gang rape: Complete coverage

Taking the incident of the convict being interviewed in custody very "seriously", home minister Rajnath Singh spoke to Tihar Jail director general Alok Kumar Verma and sought a detailed report on it urgently, official sources said.

I find the words "Rape culture" quite offensive. The fact that it happens doesn't mean it's A PART of our culture for godsake. It has never been a part of our culture.
And I am not even going to read these statements, they are just so depressing. Makes you feel helpless because you can't put some sense into their heads.. you just have to bear with their dumbness 🥱

India

Main article: Rape in India
People in Delhi, India demanding justice for young student who wasgang-raped in Delhi in December 2012.

Rape in India is one of India's most common crimes against women.[124] Marital rape that occurs when spouses are living together can only be dealt under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005 which only provides civil remedies to victims (it is a form of non-criminal domestic violence). Marital rape is not a criminal offense, except when spouses are separated. Rape cases in India have doubled between 1990 and 2008[125] Penile and non-penile penetration in bodily orifices of a woman by a man, without the consent of the woman, constitutes the offense of rape under theCriminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2013.[126]

Adjusted for population growth over time, the annual rape rate in India has increased from 1.9 to 2.0 per 100,000 people over 2008-2012 period. This compares to a reported rape rate of 1.2 per 100,000 in Japan, 3.6 per 100,000 in Morocco, 4.6 rapes per 100,000 in Bahrain, 12.3 per 100,000 in Mexico, 24.1 per 100,000 in United Kingdom, 28.6 per 100,000 inUnited States, 66.5 per 100,000 in Sweden, and world's highest rate of 114.9 rapes per 100,000 in South Africa.[28][127]

Sexual violence within marriage is common, with 25% of men admitting to forcing their wives or partners to have sex, in a survey by the Centre of Research on Women, US, and Instituto Promundon in Brazil.[128] According to the National Crime Records Bureau, 24,206 rape cases were registered in India in 2011.[129] A new case is reported every 20 minutes,[130][131] although the latest estimate suggest a new case every 22 minutes.[132]

In 2012, the conviction rate for rape was 24.2%.[133]

Rapes and all diff. types of vilolence surrounding it is a "shame of every human being in the world". Now words r enuff to condemn these acts. In my humble opinion, its 2nd most serious crime after first degree murder. The punishment hud be "life in prison w/o parole" or "death".
My above post points out the reorted cases of rape around the per 100000 ppl population. Yes there sooo many rape incidents in contries like India (and many others) coz of social stigma attached to it.

But to call India has a "rape culture" is not right was describe 1.2 Bl ppl country. If anything, with more powerful media, higher education rate, the cases of reporting r way more than a decade or 2 ago. At least, we should encourage women the families to come foraward and report it and ppl to protest and ask for faster justice system in such cases.

Prevention, reaction, Reprting and justice... shud be not just words... Rapid action with plans... plzzz ppl. Do something.

I m disturbed to say anythig abt these ppl who r worst than any creature God has ever created.

The problem is that we keep discussing about the statements given by some XYZ about rape..and forget to work on the solution. These W*F statements by rapists and ministers are coming from a long time..lets just ignore it. And try to make the laws more strict...than giving these creeps all the publicity by the media.
