It's a Ranbir movie where he is playing supporting role to Arjun Rampal. His screen time is more than 50 minutes. So, that's not a cameo.
What is praiseworthy in my view is Ranbir did it for his childhood friend (the director) so one can see his human side...nothing matters more than personal relationships...
Am i happy that he did it?- NO, these extra bucks could have been nice to have on BV opening...where every penny counts because BV needs everything to succeed...it has negative publicity going on which is never good...
@BloodyHypocrite and @Shaitan-Haiwan, guys what DB_Reloaded said is absolutely true: Roy got a good opening due to Ranbir Kapoor and the music, and then the film crashed due to negative WOM. The crash has NOTHING to do with Ranbir's star power. The crash is COMPLETELY due to the negative WOM that the film is carrying.
Many people on the forum often think a film's entire lifetime collections is decided on the basis of star power only, which is not true. Starpower brings in the audience for the first day/first weekend, and then after that the film's collections depend on how much public appreciation the film has.Films like Dhoom 3, Kick, and Happy New Year didn't get their huge lifetime collections on star power alone. Starpower contributed to some of the collections, and then public appreciation contributed to some as well.

So basically it's not a cameo or extended cameo as some of his fans are saying. I have heard he was on screen for 50mins and even movie name is after his character name so it will definitely be called a ranbir movie .Doing it for friend is all fine , though i don't believe in any emotioal connections in an industry like BW, but why was he not putting any effort at all ?? from what i heard and read reviews he looked bored, disinterested and sleep walking through his role 😕 Apart from a bad script this could be another reason for it to crash . I don't know if he was doing a favour on his friend or punishing his with this acting .As for ranbir starpower , i don't think there is anything to be happy about with the number he got considering it had good music and not so bad cast , it shows his star power reduced a lot since besharam time .Everyone knows that whatever opening numbers are for star power and then WOM so what is so special about this one that this reasoning is there in all Roy related thread.
1. If the lifetime collections depend on WOM then would Baby have made the same or almost the same money if Arjun Rampal or Ayushmann Khurrana were in the lead role?2. Does Sidharth Malhotra have the same starpower as Salman coz Ek Villain got an opening about 16 cr and Jai Ho 17 cr? Then why Hasee Toh Phasee got only 4 cr opening?
