People say camel. My mind fills in toe.
This is why I am a terrible human being. Someday, I shall die off a lynch mob.

Hmmm really ? So there goes riots and violence and the guilty comes out with his or her defense "Ooopsie daisy, I was only joking O_O" "Why take my jokes seriously ?" "That wasn't my intention at all". So basically we can say shit cuz of course we know how billions of people will react to our statements and of course we know they'll take it as jokes even if the most vile and prejudiced shit was spewed under the disguise of freedom of speech. And of course how can one intent harm when the intent was not to incite anything considering we can read everyone's thoughts and whatever is cooking in their tiny little heads <---- Yup it shall work like a charm...

What's the alternative then? Limits on freedom of speech? Who sets those limits? Based on who's morals and values and standards?

As a born and raised Muslim I feel that Hebo had the right to draw those cartoons. Muslims had the right to protest. When those protests turned into vandalism, riots and human casualties the fault did not lie with Hebo but with those who committed the vandalism etc.

I don't want to lose my right to criticize the government, an artist, a leader or even a religion because out of the 100 that I will inevitably offend one of them might pull out a gun and shoot me. Society should work on why that one person thinks it's ok for him or her to shoot me just for my opinion.

Does it work like a charm? Of course not. That's why I run the risk of getting shot by some lunatic. But once again, the alternative shouldn't be for me to walk on eggshells and never express an opinion.

One thing I will never get is why criticism of Indian censorship automatically leads people to assume that people are anti-Indian or pro-West. Freedom of speech to me is a matter of principle which is universally applicable. I don't support free speech and artistic expression because it is a western concept. I support it because it is a libertarian principle of democracy.

No system or nation is perfect or flawless. However, when it comes to freedom of speech and censorship, it is evident that India does lag behind for a democratic nation.

There is no question of white washing or being too western as well, because many will equally question racism, xenophobia and big brother governance in western nations.

It truly is irritating when I am called "white-washed" for supporting pieces of liberty. As an artist and a student in biology I have never found nudes or sexual content offensive. It is not due to the fact that I am modern or too westernised but as an appreciator of art and the biological world where sexual reproduction is the sole measure of fitness, my perspective has been moulded that way.
No doubt AIB had gone a bit too far with some of the jokes especially ones containing the elder actors, diseases and terrorism however at the same time it wasn't meant to be a nice comic show, but a crass and honest one. They had their freedom to comment on whatever they pleased just like everyone else in the society does and didn't need to take it off of their YouTube channel. The show wasn't shown on television and the people attending knew what they were getting themselves into. It was all consented for, that too by adults! There were bound to be disagreements but the content should have stayed because truly you can not please everyone.

The current 50 shades may seem explicit to the US or UK and many parts of the world but to many EU countries it is casual and natural. However, it is part of their culture so dare I say that yes a 12-year old in France may not react the same way a 12-year old would in India. It may seem irresponsible of the French censor board to many but you have to understand that it is part of their lifestyle. They have been grown up with that exposure and they will pass it on but that does not mean that the child will have some sort of an issue with their mental fitness. If handled maturely and explained properly the child wouldn't be "scarred" as many think they would be.
