I plan to be a responsible citizen working to make my country better and more tolerant rather than run away because grass is always greener on the other side.

I think the above argument is itself devoid of concepts like reasonable/unreasonable which largely contributes to a verdict being deemed justified/unjustified ..

Like i said before , such concepts are indeed subjective/relative but most problems can be solved satisfactorily with such parameters .. is it a slippery slope ?.. yes , may be .. but is it a steep downfall like your impractical take on freedom of speech ?.. absolutely not ! .. so its really about the math .. freedom of speech cannot be absolute .. its relative & its only justified that way.. my two cents.. 😊

How do you propose freedom of speech be curbed then?

I mentioned the instances where it is logically and pragmatically curbed without being subjective and arbitrary. What other ways do you propose that are better?

First of all "curb" is too strong a word to be used for ''reasonable responsibility that accompanies freedom of speech" ...

The rights & restrictions there within differs from country to country , and yes "sensibilities" do play a huge role here , but even "sensibilities" can be over-ruled if enough logical reasoning is provided.. so its a mix & match of "sensibilities" & "logical reasoning" leading to the most "justified verdict".. granted , its subjective & there is no one rule or one way of looking at it but its the most practical solution IMO .. your take on freedom of expression on the other hand is enough to create humongous chaos in a country..there will be no head or tail left to decipher & tackle the real problem that way..

As far as your theory of honesty of prejudices or prejudices being exposed due to absolute freedom of speech is concerned , i do not think that the reasonable responsibility that accompanies freedom of speech is enough to hide such prejudices , they will be exposed & known irrespective of the relative freedom of speech with perhaps the exception of not turning the predicament into an absolutely nasty-offensive one .. the restriction or responsibility that accompanies freedom of speech is not intended to curb the right but rather to put a reasonable perspective in place & i dont think it will lead to "restriction" of anything as such if practiced properly..

Putting appropriate laws in place is of course the job of law makers , they are qualified for the job, they know exactly what laws are practical for a country & i ll leave it to them.. should the laws make practical life difficult for me or others around me for reasonable reasons , i ll raise my voice against it ..laws can be changed .. but it should be changed for better & not the other way round..
