Urmila's the Grand Marshall of the I-Day Parade there tomorrow

Urmila Matondkar is in New York and is the Grand Marshall of the Independence Day Parade there. Even though she's thousands of miles away, patriotic fervour is high.

"It's very endearing to see how people living so many miles away have India and Indianness in their hearts as compared to us who live in India and bitch about it, sometimes for good reasons too. I love America, actually Manhattan, and I am only looking for excuses to go there," she says. To find an NRI husband? "No honey, that will have to wait," she laughs.

Independence Day aside, Urmila is scorching the screens yet again with her enaction of the legendary Mehbooba Mehbooba song in Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag , Ram Gopal Varma's nth titled version/remake of the original Ramesh Sippy classic.

And, of course, the opportunity to seduce Amitabh Bachchan, if only in reel life, was just something she would not have passed up.

"The chemistry between Mr Bachchan and me in the song is very direct and in your face and all there. It's a very contemporary picturization (it would be daft to duplicate the original!) wherein the character is teasing him and amused at the difficult time she's giving him.

When I am serenading Mr Bachchan, even if it's on screen, I mean do I have to say anything? I was nervous the morning of the shoot given it was my first time working with Mr Bachchan and when he met me, he said, ' Kabhi kabhi mere dil mein khyal aata hai ki mein aapke jaise dikhoo aur naachoo' and put me at ease immediately.

My jaw dropped and it's still hanging! Now I am emboldened enough to think of working with him in a film. If you're an Amitabh fan, you become a devotee after working with him! Even my friends are so jealous about my close proximity to him in the song! He's quite the sexy guy," says the Bachchan fan.

And she's not the least amused with talk of her working with RGV after a considerable period of time giving rise to rumours and the like.

"I find it beyond amazing that it's such a big deal that Ramu and I are working together. We have done some great work earlier and we want to do something worth our while and the Mehbooba song was worth every bit. So, we worked together. It's a legendary song and easily the best song in every which way of Indian cinema. I have danced to this song a million times behind the screen and it was my biggest high to perform on screen! Dancing is something that comes naturally to me — it's just not work for me. I had a blast shooting it," says the charismatic actor who recently walked the ramp for good friend and designer Manish Malhotra in a champagne coloured, swarovski studded ghagra which weighed over 25 kilos.

"I have made it a habit to walk for Manish and it's a pleasure each time. The ghagra was so heavy that even if I had died, I would have made a pretty picture of death! Something like the bride in the Guns 'n' Roses November Rain video! I want to see the woman who buys it and walks two steps in it, forget a ramp! It's understood that Manish will design my wedding dress (when and how it happens) and after seeing all these heavy creations, I have told him to make me a swarovski studded pair of shorts for the same," she laughs.
