So I won't do a blow by blow on this week as there have been plenty of excellent write ups, but I do want to talk about what has been fixed, from my perspective.
I must give credit to the makers, that the way this week has panned out, although genre has been changed, they seem to have really taken online feedback onboard and at the end the week, quite frankly, I have no complaints.
1. Rehman deal killed
The last few weeks had been a total train wreck for the makers. The deal was the last loose string which they cut early in the week. Sure, it was a little strange and u r left to wonder why didn't Sahir go bankrupt or what about the video, but it had become a mess and had to end. Tick.
2. Arzoo becoming a business woman killed
This was another train wreck waiting to happen. I'm glad they took action and even after all the hype in the news, plus the awful montage, it seems, very late in the day, they changed direction. Better late than never. Tick.
2. Arzoo characterisation
This week, pretty much every issue I had with Arzoo was addressed. The childish behaviour was gone and we got a week full of mature self talks. Arzoo is shown thinking, observing, reflecting on Sahir, his behaviour, the situation. We, the audience can FINALLY connect to her!!! Furthermore, we got proper conversation between the two. She opens up and tells him about the attack on her. She then follows up with concern for him and he also reciprocates. Hallelujah!
Finally, once she finds out about Zeenat being in a 7 year coma, she is shown as being empathetic enough to start wondering about his pain and wondering what else he is keeping within him. And then when Arzoo stopped his self mutilation? I tell you, I was taken aback. Watching Arzoo this week was like every single piece of feedback on this forum was playing out in front on me. Truly amazing. Thank you CVs.
3. Zaki
Zaki was back and I was happy to see him. Zaki was actually great but as with Arzoo, they ruined his characterisation during the love triangle debacle. His scene with Arzoo was spot on. He was awkward but has accepted the situation and didn't show any signs of love. He was always a good friend to Arzoo and I have no issues with them reverting back to that as long as that's what they remain. Of course he might be in revenge mode, but we will see what happens with that!
4. Sahir
Sahir has luckily always been Sahir but it has been great to see a concerned, protective Sahir. He was very open about his loyalty, care, concern towards Arzoo this week and we got to see some fabulously executed SaAz scenes full of chemistry and brilliant dialogues. The attention expression was also excellent.
He also was shown trusting Arzoo's claims on Zeenat. Even today, although he denied believing her in front of Zeenat, he has been shown thinking all week on what the real deal is. And even when Sahir said he didn't believe Arzoo and accused her of childishness, Arzoo took it on the chin and rather than throwing her toys out of the pram, she promised to get Sahirs trust in this.
The other nice thing has been the playful retorts to Arzoo...ziddi under his breath today or the 'bhau khati hai' under his breath yesterday. He is relaxing with her.
Also the dialogue when KA tries to kick Arzoo out - I think he was saying, we are both stubborn, we fight but we both belong together ( and saying room was just a metaphor) ...this guy has made his commitment and belief in this marriage loud and clear. We see it again with the Nausheen/Sahir scene. I loved the line where he says something like, I'm not sure if I'll make her happy but I will always protect her. That was so sweet.
Finally his feelings (or rather lack of) for Zeenat are made very very clear. He doesn't leave any room for Arzoo to have any misunderstanding on this subject.
The change in plot
The key thing about this plot is that Arzoo is being targeted and Zeenat ( whoever her accomplices may be) is definitely the villain...a really evil villain. Anyone watching her will park their discomforts on Sahir having married twice and just focus on how Arzoo is going to convince everyone Zeenats not in a coma. Very honestly, I do not see Zeenat as Sahirs wife at all. And this is thanks to Sahirs indifference to her plus her portrayal so far. She's a nasty piece of work.
We see a new entry, ACP Rathod. I actually like him. He is shown as being a pretty smart cookie. His dialogues were actually making me laugh today (especially his salim-javed reference) and I liked his exchange with KA.
Finally, everyone's a suspect, from KA to Alvira to Zaki. It's a good suspense.
In summary, the makers have weaved in Saaz's story progression very nicely within the thriller. My dad is thoroughly enjoying it and even my hubby watched the last 2 days. What this tells me is the thriller plot should attract a larger audience but if they continue moving the SaAz relationship along as they have done this week, they won't loose their core audience.
The CVs are on the right track. They must maintain it though...keep SaAz progressing, maintain the tempo on the thriller track and all will be well...it must be pretty tough for them to come up with the dialogues/screenplay in such little time. Happy to give them Monday off if it means we get better quality episodes!!! 👏
