'I'll go to New York. I don't want Arnav to feel suffocated' she decided, breaking into tears.
She wiped her tears and nodded, closing her eyes in extreme sadness.
"Piyu" she called out for her from the kitchen in a teary voice, "I need your help baby."
"I'll just get it.. You get down from the shelf first" she screamed, running to the bedroom to get the laptop.
Khushi got down from the shelf and walked to the living room.
"Yes tell me. What do I need to do ma'am?"
"Type my resignation letter" she replied, trying hard to control her sobs.
"Oka--What?!" "Why?" "Kya hua Khush?"
"I'll go to New York. I don't want Arnav to hurt himself because of me.." she spoke and stopped abruptly as her throat ached badly.
"No Khush. You're not taking a right decision. You yourself were so excited to be in his firm. Let's wait na. Everything will get well--" Piya got up and came beside Khushi.
"Nothing will get well Piyu. He'll never consider my love. Its better if I go away.." Khushi told her, wiping her tears again, "Tu letter likh de."
"Okay--" and she sat down with her laptop and started to type as per Khushi's words.
Khushi pressed the bell to the Raizada Mansion. She had left home early to meet Dadi for the last time before leaving for New York the next day. She was the one to be thanked. While everyone was screaming at Khushi years ago, Subhadra was the one who had hugged her close to her chest, shushing her extremely scared form.
As soon as the door opened, Khushi smiled and moved forward to hug her.
"Khushi?" smiled the old lady, "Arnav has left just now.. you--?"
"No Dadi. I'm not here to meet Arnav. I'm here to meet you... may be for the last time"
"Dadi I'm leaving for New York tomorrow afternoon" Khushi told her, her eyes welling up.
"Why?" she asked, shocked, "Did Arnav do something?"
"Nahi nahi Dadi. He didn't do anything. I've got a job offer.. that's why"
Khushi looked into her motherly eyes, and hugged her again, crying on her shoulder.
"Don't go baccha" Subhadra said in a teary tone, "He'll not be able to bear this"
"He doesn't want me to be around Dadi. I can't see him hurt.. please" she replied, breaking into sobs.
"Bye Dadi" Khushi pressed her lips together, hugging her for the last time.
Khushi came running and fell into Subhadra's lap, who sat in the lawn, knitting a sweater.
"Khushi baccha. Kam se kam apna bag toh utaar do" (Khushi baccha. At least take off your bag) Subhadra giggled, moving a hand in her hair.
"Nahi Dadi. Aap na Arnav ko keh do ki aap mujhse jyada pyaar karte ho" (No Dadi. You tell Arnav that you love me more than him) Khushi pouted and smiled a broken-toothed smile.
Arnav also came there running, "Khushi tu kitni gandi hai. Dadi dekho aaj isne meri shirt kharab kardi" (Khushi you are very bad. Dadi see she spoiled my shirt today) he complained, turning and showing his dirt-filled school shirt to her.
"Haww. Humne kya kiya?" (Haww. What did I do?) Khushi stared at him with narrowed eyes.
"Aaja Arnav. Main saaf kar deti hoon" (Come Arnav. I'll clean it) Subhadra called him near her.
"Nahi hum nahi uthenge aapki godi mein se Dadi" (No I'll not get up from your lap Dadi) Khushi clutched Subhadra's saree tightly.
"Tu meri dost nahi hai?" (You're not my friend?) Arnav asked her in a sad tone.
Khushi made a puppy-face looking at his face and quickly got up from Dadi's lap, hugging Arnav tightly, and placing a wet kiss on his cheek, "Hum toh aapse pyaar karte hai Arnav" (But I love you Arnav) and she ran away to search for her mother.
"Khushii" he irritatingly screamed at her retreating back, wiping his wet cheek with his hand.
Khushi turned and looked back at Subhadra and smiled before leaving for AR.
Khushi entered AR, looking at everyone smilingly. It was the last time she was seeing her friends. Without meeting anyone, she first hasted to Arnav's cabin, to get her resignation letter signed.
"May I come in sir?" she softly knocked the door.
"Yes come in" he spoke without looking in her direction.
She came near his table, trying hard to not to cry. He anticipated her to place his coffee on the table, but when she placed her resignation letter on the table, he looked up at her incredulously.
"What--" he got up from his chair, making her step back in fear.
"I am resigning from AR" she softly spoke, keeping her eyes down-casted.
"You can't -- I mean you don't have a reason" he said, feeling his heart sink.
"I have a reason sir. I have got a post in New York Fashion House" she replied, feeling tears to roll down her cheeks.
"It's not even two weeks since you joined AR. So you can't leave before serving your notice period" he tried to find out a reason to stop her.
"I have talked to Mr. Vivaan through Gautam. He is coming back to India in another week" she said, closing her eyes.
Arnav was silent for a minute. He didn't knew what to say.
She must be leaving because of him. For sure.
She turned to leave his cabin.
"Khushii" he let out a deep sigh, making her turn and look at him with widened eyes.
"Arnav please. I don't want you to be hurt. I'll go away" she whispered, coming close to him, "I could have explained, because I know I'm not at fault. But I don't want to explain. If you cared about my love for you even for a second na, you would have have listened. You would have listened to my cries. But no Arnav. You never cared about me. I'll go away from your life.. forever. And I don't expect anything from you. I don't expect anything from this relationship. I'll die holding your hatred for me. But please don't let yourself suffocate. I can't see you hurt.. that too because of me" she said between her sobs, at last flinging her arms around his neck and hugging him tightly.
"Khushi please -- I-I--" he tried to hug her back but before he could, she stepped back.
"No matter how much you hate me Arnav.. my heart will continue to love you - forever" she said and pressed her lips softly over his lips..feeling his touch for the last time.
"I love you Arnav" she repeated, and stepped back, keeping a foot distance between them.
The tears in her eyes were unstoppable. His own eyes glistened with tears. The thought that he will not be able to see her ever was creating havoc in his mind. He wanted her to stop. But bina kahe thodi na kuch hota hai..
She smiled looking at him for the last time and turned back and left his cabin.
He stepped forward towards the door, stretching an empty hand towards her retreating form. He looked helpless..really helpless.
Khushi came down his cabin and gasped seeing the whole office staff gathered near the stairs.
"Why are you leaving Khushi?" a lady asked her.
'Gautam must have told everyone' Khushi assumed.
"Sorry guys. But I have to go" Khushi replied, glancing at everyone with love-filled eyes.
She was such a charm to all the staff members. Everyone in the office loved her, of course except Arnav. Right from patching up two people who liked each other to lending money to the peons, Khushi was the first one whom everyone asked help from. She managed everything so perfectly. In just a week, each staff member was on her fan-following list. And she was too humble to even realize it.
Now that she was leaving, it was really hard for everyone to digest the fact.
She hugged everyone good bye, instructing everyone to care of themselves.
After a teary farewell, she finally glanced at the glass wall of Arnav's cabin, finding him standing right there. She closed her eyes and walked out of AR.
'What's happening to me? Why I'm not able to get over it? I cannot be weak. Relax Arnav' Relax' he caressed his head, Khushi's crying face flashing again and again in front of his eyes. Her feel of her lips still lingered on his lips, making his heart cry for her.
He walked towards his table and sat on his chair, patting his head lightly to ease out the pain.
'What have you done Khushi? Why are you going away? I--I can't let this happen'
'But I'll not be able to see her ever now'
'She just can't leave me like that'
..and for the first time in all these years, his mind handed over the work to his heart, to resolve all the damage caused by him.
Remain hooked coz its going to get intense đ
