Chapter 18 - Belonging to each other
Later that day, after the Kuldevi pooja, was the Mehendi function. Khushi's family was invited to Raizada Mansion for the Mehendi, though not according to the custom.
It was just two days for the D-Day and both the groom and the bride were equally excited for that.
Obviously!
Since it was no longer an arranged marriage, both of them were anticipating the life waiting ahead for them.
Their love story was so like a fairy tale. A prince comes to a princess's life, very royally on a white horse. He takes his hand forward towards her. She gives her hand into his and he pulls her up on his horse. And he rodes away to live a heavenly life together.
Isn't that so wonderful?

Khushi looked at her reflection in the mirror and combed her hair. Clad in green coloured sari, she looked utterly beautiful, ready to put the mehendi on her hands, in the name of Arnav, her to-be husband.
All the four members of the family, along with a few relatives that had arrived for the marriage ceremony left for the Raizada Mansion.
Right beside Khushi, was her cousin, Sana - the most outspoken girl of the Gupta family.
Her continuous nudging about Arnav had already left Khushi flustered.
They reached Raizada Mansion, and for the while Sana was wow-ing over the hugeness of the mansion, Khushi quickly made her way to walk behind her mother.
Anjali and Manorama welcomed the Gupta family.
The whole mansion was decorated with yellow marigolds and fairy lights, giving an apt atmosphere for a wedding function. There was no sign of any male member of the family, not even Arnav.
Khushi's eyes searched for him, but finding no trace for him, she sighed and followed her mother silently to the hall where many girls were called to beautify the hands of the bride.
Khushi sat down on a specially decorated chair, while two of the girls sat beside her to apply the mehendi. Other ladies seated themselves in the hall, some getting their own mehendi done, some dancing on the beats of the dholwalis.
Right from her elbow, the girls started to apply mehendi in different intricate designs, while Khushi still eyed on the stairs to get a glimpse of her prince. She longed to see him. It had been complete four hours since she saw him.. four hours! And she already missed him. She noticed Anjali looking at her and quickly formed a stern look on her face.
It took like an hour for her mehendi to get done. Her both hands.. rather say arms were covered with henna. In the middle of her hand, shined 'A' letter. Her Arnavji's name. Giving her a sense of belonging..that she belonged to him. Just she waited for it to dry and the brownish colour to come up. Deeper the colour, more is the love of the husband -- some belief going on since ages.
After she was allowed to get up from the chair, she called Sana to straighten her hair and sari. As she walked to her mother, she stopped near Anjali to show her mehendi to her.
"Nani I think we should call Chotte, Aakash and NK downstairs now. Mehendi is over so I think they can join us for the dance" Anjali spoke to Nani, looking at Khushi from the corner of her eyes.
"Arrey waah Khushiji. The mehendi looks so beautiful" Anjali complimented looking at Khushi henna-filled hands.
"Haan haan Anjali bitiya. Go and call them" Nani approved, smiling at Khushi.
The smile that formed on Khushi's lips, surely was not seen by Anjali or Nani.
Anjali chuckled seeing her bhabhi's excitement and touched her cheeks, before leaving for Arnav's room.

Arnav came downstairs with his two brothers, looking handsome in a cream-coloured kurta. He saw Khushi standing beside her mother and passed her a bright smile. She blushed and looked down, waiting for everyone to give them some time alone.
"Khushiji. Meet Nandkishore. He's our cousin. Call him NK" Anjali introduced NK to Khushi.
"Hello" he took forward a hand towards her, which she shook greeting him.
Anjali moved to the hall followed by everyone, where there were already many people dancing.
When just Arnav and Khushi were left, Khushi moved a step towards him, stretching out her hands to show him her mehendi.
Arnav looked at her hands and then at the 'A' right in the middle. She was branded.. in his name.
"It's so--"
"I know Arnavji" she didn't let him complete the sentence.
"Really?" he asked amused, "What do you know?" and he tried to caught hold of her hand.
"Nahi" she squealed, "You'll spoil my mehendi"
"Okay then" he shrugged his shoulders and pulled her towards him holding her waist.
"You didn't give me what I asked you yesterday night" he teased her.
Khushi looked at her sides, quivering in his hold, "Arnavji. Please let go. Somebody will see us"
"Shh" he shut her up, as he bent his head and brought his lips close to hers.
"Ar--na--v--ji" she stammered, as her eyes closed and felt his lips touch hers.
It was not even a second of their kiss, as they heard someone scream.
Khushi quickly moved back and turned to find Sana standing right behind her, closing her eyes with her hands.
"Sana? What are you doing?" Khushi asked her, completely irritated.
"Di. Mami is calling you" she straightaway told and looked at Arnav, "Ji-Ja-Ji. You need to wait for just two days for all this. You know you should feel lucky as I saw you in this position. If mami or anybody else saw this, they would have scolded you. But see.. I am not even telling this to anybody. But just I'll be taking my Di to the hall. Sorry haan" she blabbered, and at last smiled at him as she felt Khushi's angry glare at her.
She quickly ran back to the hall, winking at Arnav.
"I'm so sorry Arnavji. She didn't mean to ---" Khushi tried to settle the havoc caused by her foolish cousin.
"It's okay Khushi" Arnav said and looked away from Khushi, "Tum jao"
"Awww. I can't let the person I love be unhappy because of me" Khushi lifted herself on her toes and pressed her lips hard over his, being careful that her mehendi doesn't spoil his kurta.
She quickly moved back and winked at him, before walking to the hall to join everyone for a dance.
He stared at her retreating figure for like a minute and then touched his lips, pondering over her touch which still lingered.

After Khushi's family left for their place, the Raizada family sat back sipping hot coffee after a tiring day.
Arnav's smile was not leaving his face; and Anjali's smile was widening with each passing second. She had never seen her brother so happy.
"Di. When will we have our bachelor's party?" NK stood up and asked Anjali.
"NK bhai. We don't have time for that. Tomorrow morning is the haldi and later in the evening we have the Sangeet. Day after tomorrow is the marriage itself. So you see we don't have time" Anjali counted the to-happen events on her fingers and pouted looking at NK.
"That's not fair" he pouted.
"Arrey NK bhai don't worry. We'll have a party after bhai's marriage" Aakash comforted NK, looking at Arnav who seemed lost in his own world.
"Okay. We'll enjoy tomorrow during the sangeet" he suggested, as everyone thumbed-up his thought.
"I have something special to do" Arnav got up all-of-a-sudden, confusing everyone, "for Khushi" and he went up to his room, bidding everyone good night.
