Speculation intensified after eagle eyed fans noticed that the couple had allegedly unfollowed each other on Instagram. Putting all rumours to rest, Mouni and Suraj finally confirmed their separation yesterday through a joint statement, revealing that they have decided to part ways amicably while requesting privacy during this phase.

While their marriage is now falling aparts, there was once a time when Suraj revealed how an ultimatum from Mouni made him realise that if he does not marry her, he will lose her.

In an earlier interaction with Bombay Times, Suraj had spoken candidly about marriage and how his perspective changed after tying the knot. "For a long time, I was against the idea of getting married. However, having experienced it for a year, I must say it is quite peaceful, and I would recommend it." He further revealed that Mouni had always been certain about what she wanted from the relationship right from the beginning.

Suraj recalled that after being together for a few years, Mouni no longer wanted their relationship to remain uncertain. Sharing how serious she was about marriage, he said, "Mouni was quite clear that she wanted to get married very early on. After a couple of years of dating, she clearly said it was either this way or the highway."

He admitted that he initially kept delaying the decision before eventually realising he did not want to lose her. "I just kept buying time. Then one day, she gave me an ultimatum, and I realised that if I didn't marry her, I would lose her. That's when I realised we should get married as I knew that my life would be better with her," Suraj added.

Mouni had also previously spoken about how their hectic professional schedules surprisingly worked in favour of their relationship. The actress, known for films like 'Gold' and 'Made In China', explained that despite busy routines, both of them consciously prioritised quality time together. "What works for us is the fact that we both are very occupied in our professional lives," Mouni had shared. She added, "So, the moments we get to spend with each other, we make the most of them. There's a conscious effort to utilise this time positively."

The actress had also acknowledged that like every couple, they faced disagreements over the years, but believed their relationship matured with time. "We have grown a lot in this relationship. It has been quite a journey. We have had our fair share of arguments. But today, we are at a stage where we can be with each other without complaining, and just be ourselves and be happy," she said.

Suraj had also opened up about adjusting to life in Mumbai after marriage. He confessed that the idea of relocating initially felt intimidating, but credited Mouni for helping him adapt smoothly to the city and making him feel at home among her friends and social circle. "I also had a lot of apprehension about partially moving to Mumbai. I thought it would be tough, but I saw Mouni putting in a lot of effort to make me feel comfortable here. Now, her friends are my friends and vice versa," he had shared.
