Bollywood actresses who never graduated

01
Kareena Kapoor: From a very tender age, glamour and glitz impressed her more than anything else. One of the highest paid actresses of the decade, Kareena made her film debut at the age of 20. After studying commerce for two years at Mithibai College, Kareena developed an interest towards law. She then enrolled at the Government Law College, but left it after the first year to join Bollywood.

02
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan: One of the most beautiful faces in the world, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is a college dropout too. Aishwarya had always been an average student. She went to Jai Hind college for a year but later switched to some other college to pursue architecture. Soon she was offered many high end modeling assignments and film offers. Thus she left her studies mid-way to join the Bollywood bandwagon.

03
Deepika Padukone: While Deepika played a college girl in one of the highest grossing films of the year, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, very few know that Deepika did not complete her graduation in real life. For Deepika, Bollywood had always been her first calling. Deepika had joined Mount Carmel in Bangalore but never completed her studies there. She also enrolled for a short term course in IGNOU for further studies but could never complete it. Deepika, who has been tagged as the highest grossing actress of Bollywood, definitely paid a huge price for reaching where she is today.

04
Priyanka Chopra: One of the most sought after actresses of the decade, Priyanka never finished her graduation. The beauty queen has done her schooling from a number of places like USA and India. She wanted to be a criminal psychologist and joined Jai Hind college in Mumbai. But modeling and beauty assignments came her way too soon.

05
Karisma Kapoor: One of the first to break the Kapoor stereotype, Karisma not only entered showbiz but also made it big there. Her passion and scintillating looks made her one of the most prominent stars of the 90s. However, very few of us are aware of the price she paid for this. Karisma allegedly dropped out of school soon after she entered sixth standard to pursue acting. Her first film was Prem Qaidi when she was just sixteen.

Can someone please explain to me how the schooling system in India works? In the U.S. we have 1st through 12th grade with grades 9th through 12th being high school. Then comes college or university depending on personal choice or grades etc. That's basically when you decide what you want to do in life, though changing fields of study among college students here is not uncommon at all.

So reading above, is it saying that Karisma Kapoor dropped out of 6th grade then? Wouldn't she be around age 12 in 6th grade? Or is standard different than grade? Also are you out of high school after 10th grade and 11th and 12th considered college?

Date of birth: 1974
Sixth standard: 11 years
So she was 11 years old in: 1985
Prem Qaidi was released in: 1991
Her age during Prem Qaidi was: 17

What's the gap analysis for the 6 years, as per the article?

Karisma might have actually waited around for a couple of years. She was rumored to have been picked by Dharmendra to be cast opposite Bobby in his launch film Barsaat, the movie that eventually went to Twinkle Khanna. I still don't believe that she actually dropped out of 6th standard, if 6th standard is indeed the equivalent of 6th grade here in the U.S. That means she's basically uneducated. I know a lot of them drop out of college or even high school but later on you have retained some of that education. 6th grade is very very low. Yea I'm doubting that part of it.

And now to contradict myself, I don't know how true the rumors of her launch with Bobby are/were. It was widely speculated that the main reason she did the kind of movies she did for a long time was because none of the big banners would offer her any roles out of respect for the Kapoor family. Kapoor girls can't be in films and all that blah blah.

Boy do I know how to go off topic don't I? By the way, I'm still confused about Indian school systems.

Barsaat came out in 95 but I think Karisma made her debut in 90-91. If you see the trend most of the star kids don't have any interest in education. Yes American 6th and Indian 6th grade would be at same level with different syllabus though.Babita was like a tiger mom who was going through a rough patch and pushed Karishma into movies at an young age. I think once Karishma reached Puberty age, she started training/preparing her for a debut.

At bold:Wait, let me explain in another post.

India basically follows 3 boards of education- CBSE(Central board of Secondary Education), ISC/ICSE(Indian school certificate) and state board(syllabus differs with states).

In CBSE/ISC 9th to 12th is high school. After 10th ,they choose optional subjects (Science or Commerce or Arts),and wear same uniforms and continue in the same school. CBSE and ISC has tougher syllabus than State board. N usually have to study just one language(English,Hindi) in 11th n 12th, 2 languages till 10th.

Whereas in state board ,9th and 10th is high school and 11th and 12th is considered Pre University College(PUC) with various branches to choose from like Phy/Chem/Maths/Bio or PCMElectronic or Commerce or Arts etc. After 10th Kids have to apply to get admission in a PUC depending on their 10th scores. No uniform. State boards have to study 2 languages along with their core subjects in PU whereas 3 languages in 9th and 10th.

Then after 12th everyone writes an entrance exam for whatever they want to study to get a seat in an university of their chosen profession(engineering/Medical),be it AIEEE, JEE, CET, COMEDK, AIPMT(google all this if you want to know what it means😆). Bachelors in Arts and Commerce fields just have direct admissions without entrance I think.
