Will HNY's online release steal PK's thunder?

Aamir Khan-starrer "PK" released in theatres last week. The movie not just received positive response from the critics but even the film fraternity gave it a big thumbs up. While Aamir's "PK" is still pulling audience to the theatres, we hear that Shah Rukh Khan is ready to release his last movie "Happy New Year" once again. Yes, you heard it right, but this time it will be an online release.

"Happy New Year" will now be available for the international fans to view directly online. The movie will use the direct-to-fan (DTF) model so that fans in unconventional distribution markets are able to view it as well. The idea behind the development, by Red Chillies Entertainments Pvt. Ltd., is to make the film reach the maximum amount of people.

"We at Red Chillies have always taken pride in establishing new trends and delighting our fans. Along these lines we bring the biggest entertainer - 'Happy New Year', directly to our fans through online streaming for the first time ever," Venky Mysore, CEO, Red Chillies Entertainment, said in a statement.

While the traditional distribution markets like India and China enjoy a wide release of a Hindi film, DTF will release in other countries, barring these two traditional ones, to reach the most unconventional distribution markets.

The film will be available on the "Happy New Year" website to be viewed by the fans worldwide.

All you need is an internet connection, a device to watch it on and a credit card. At a minimum price, the film can be viewed on your computer, phone or any other digital device as it has internet connectivity.

"Happy New Year" turned out to be one of the biggest box office openers in Bollywood this year.

Directed by Farah Khan, the movie has an ensemble cast featuring Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Sonu Sood, Boman Irani, Vivaan Shah and SRK.

Meanwhile, Aamir's "PK", which was directed by Rajkumar Hirani, has already raked in Rs.95.21 crore in the opening weekend. The movie is expected to cross the Rs.200 crore mark soon.
