All the cadets were taking rest after the 2-hour drill. It was really very tiring.
Naina was sitting under a tree. She was looking up at the sky, her lips curved in a hint of a smile as she was thinking about last evening at point 1857.
As she fidgeted in her bag for the bottle of water, her fingers touched the watch.
She took it out and held in her hand. Lovingly, she traced out the shape of the watch and the band with her right index finger.
She brought it up near her nostrils. She could feel the fragrance of the special perfume that Raj uses mixed with his body aroma. This fragrance was so assuring to her. She affectionately kissed the dial of the watch.
She held the watch against her left cheek and closed her eyes.
Suddenly she felt the warmth of another body. The fragrance that was on the watch-band now filled the air around. Someone has put a hand behind her to give her support. She looked up and saw what she wanted to see.
Rajveer's smiling face.
"Sir," the only word she could utter. His finger came against her lips, not letting her speak out a word.
But Naina is not a girl to be stopped easily.
" I want to tell you something," Naina gasped , "I love you Sir" she said without stopping"
She suddenly felt someone was shaking her. She opened her eyes and looked around for Rajveer. Her heart was beating very fast.
"Naina - wake up, the bus is leaving and I know that you love Rajveer sir," ...it was Alekh's voice.
Naina stood up, her eyes on the ground from the shyness of a girl newly in love.. The watch dropped to the ground from her lap.
Alekh picked it up, looked at it, and affectionately put it in Naina's front pouch.
"Rajveer Sir bhi tujhse pyar karta hai, dekh sare wakt woh tere saath ha,i"smilingly he said.
Naina looked at Alekh surprisingly. She was too excited.
She wanted to be with her Sir right now. She will hold his hand forever and never let him go anywhere.
They started to run towards the bus. Suddenly Naina fall down tripping on a piece of stone. As she tried to get up, she saw it.
It was lying just behind the bush on the right side - the white piece of cloth with stains of blood here and there. The letters RSS she so affectionately embroidered last night were staring back at her with all their ink-black glory - the favourite color of Captain Shikhawat.
Her heart beating so hard seconds back has missed a beat. She could not move. A chill spread down her spine. She could smell danger. Naina was a natural fighter. Rajveer's company has given her an intuition to sense the direction of imminent danger.
She was the eternal female now ready to save her love from any evil at any cost. She asked Alekh to follow her and she went through the bush near the handkerchief and picked it up. She held it close to her heart and closed her eyes. Rajveer's smiling face and the friendly wink was all could see. "Naina Ah singh " , was all that she could hear.
She has to save him He is in danger. "Oh God please keep him from any harm, " silently Naina said to herself.
Alekh looked down at the ground. He saw the footprints and deep impression of something, most probably somebody being dragged towards the north. He asked Naina to follow him. They began to slowly run towards the northern direction, all the time keeping their eyes and ear open to any kind of signal.
After running like that for 20 minutes or so, they came across Captain's jeep, but not the captain. The jeep key was right there but one of the tire was flat. Alekh went to the back of the vehicle and got the spare tire and toolbox. He started to change the tire swiftly. His experience of working at the garage of the prison came to his aid now.
Naina walked too and fro. She could not stand still. Why did she let him go so easily without knowing where he is going. She started to blame herself.
No next time if Sir has to go anywhere he will have to take my permission. He will come to me and ask me "Cadet.. oops ...Madam Naina may I take your leave to go for this mission. "
And I will say " No Captain, first you will have to kiss me and then give me the warmest hug and tell me where and how you plan to go."
Naina smiled at the silly musing. She was a girl newly in love. Even amidst extreme danger, the thought of love brings smile to her lips"
Alekh looked back at her and shook his head. "Pyar!" he uttered,
Alekh started the jeep. Naina jumped to the seat beside him. "Tujhe malum kahan jana..?" Naina asked Alekh.
" Apun ke dil bolte hai aage jana , apun ke dil kabhi galat nahin bola."
Naina knew Alekh was right about his "dil"..
Naina again started dreaming. The watch was still in her hand. She almost clung to it as if it was Raj's hand she was holding.
It was mount Point 1857. She was praying silently holding her hands together. She thought she would pray for Navin Bhaiya . But as soon as she closed her eyes, only one face came in front of her. "Please give me my love. I will die without him. ", was all she could pray for.
She wondered what Raj prayed for. She did not know that Raj had prayed for her happiness.
Suddenly she felt a hand wrapping the dupatta around her head. She looked up. She could not believe her eyes. Rajveer Sir! Did he love her too?
She wondered.
Rajveer sweetly smiled at her and said , " You were shivering"
Naina could sense the love in his voice but the words did not come out.
"I think we have reached the place " Alekh's voice brought Naina back to reality of 2007.
They could see the bungalow right from where Alekh stopped the jeep. There was few armed guard at the entrance. Two cars including one white one were there to.
How did they know that Captain was there.?
It was the natural instinct of Alekh that told them
It was the intuition of a woman in love that convinced them.
Alekh hid the jeep behind the jungle bushes. They silently, like cats, crawled to the back of the bungalow.
Alekh jumped over the boundary wall and helped Nain to cross it. They walked towards the two-storied building.
All the windows on the ground floor were closed .
One window on the upper floor was slightly open. Alekh took out the rope from his backpack and threw it upwards . The anchor on the rope fixed on the wooden frame of the window-sill.
Alekh asked Naina to climb the rope but told her to first check the inside thoroughly before jumping in.
Alekh held the rope tightly at the bottom.
Naina swiftly climbed up the rope. Her hands and legs were strong from the rigorous army training. She tried to follow the instructions of Captain Rajveer who was an expert on climbing.
Naina looked through the window.
And - yes - Captain was lying there with his back towards the window, hands and leg spread out.
Naina's heart stopped beating.
Oh God. Is he ......
She could not even think the dreaded word - dead.
