The indian tennis players were part of this event and league, they play for the team. Bopanna, and Sania plays for India team-Aces. International tennis stars played for different teams. Federer and Sampras played for Team India Aces. Djokovic played for UAE, Agassi played for Singapore. Its international tournament like the IPL we have for cricket but with different country as teams.
Federer, Djokovic and many more tennis stars played real competitive matches of this ITPL, they played with our Indian tennis players here. India team is currently leading in points the remaining matches are in Dubai if I am not wrong. This film celebs match happened after a real match was over and 30 minutes before another real match started. This was used as attraction to get more crowd and attention to the sport. The media focus more on filmstars so the filmstars' match got more media coverage and attention than the real tournament.
A lot of people thought they only came and played with the film celebs but thats not true . Federer and Djokovich played for the competition for 2 days in India but their 15 minute match on the 2nd day with bollywood celebs got major attention from media. It can get annoying for a lot of people, who are not in favour of watching filmstars everywhere but organizers and sponsors are helpless its the filmstars who bring maximum visibility and coverage by media for an event. ITPL is absolutely new, keeping a short Bollywood celebrity match in between to bring more attention to ITPL is a profitable step for them.
Its the mainstream entertainment media and social networking sites who are going crazy with the attention to the Bollywood celeb match... If you check bollywood related accounts and websites its stuffed with pictures and memes of them with Aamir, Deepika, Akshay and Anushka. The Hardcore news channels and sports media gave good coverage to the sport and the tennis players.
