*The next morning,5:30 a.m.*
Arnav wakes up to the sight of Khushi sprawled on the bed in front of him.
Her arms were wrapped around Arnav's pillow and her head was also resting on it.
Her totally crushed saree told Arnav that the Taekwondo queen must've been in action the previous night!
He smiled as he got off the recliner.
After stretching his arms and flexing his shoulders,he walked up to the bed and quietly slipped in beside Khushi.
Arnav(calls softly): Khushi?
Khushi: umm?
Arnav(tucks her hair behind her ear): Good mornin!
Khushi(sighs): hmmm...
She kisses the pillow and wishes him in a sleepy voice.
Arnav: I'm over here!
Khushi: What?
Arnav: Open your eyes!
It takes a minute or so for Khushi to get a grip of the situation.
Khushi(elated): You woke up?!
She throws the pillow aside & shifts closer to him.
Arnav smiles when she throws her arms around him.
Arnav(kisses her hair): I'm really sorry! I never realized when I fell asleep last night!
Khushi: Thats because you were very tired. So,did you sleep well? Hope you didnt wake up in the middle of the night?
Arnav: Nope!
Khushi: Thats great! Now,you'll be able to work energetically all through the day!
She breaks the hug before pecking his lips.
Arnav: I slept well but your eyes are tellin me that you didnt sleep well.
Khushi(sad face): How can I sleep well if you're not sleeping right next to me?!
Arnav: For how long were you up last night?
Khushi: I dont know.(cups his cheek) All I know is that I sat at the edge of the bed and kept gazing at you till my eyelids felt heavy! When I realized that I wouldnt be able to sit for any longer,I got up & went to sleep. I wanted to.. apologize.. for ruining your surprise. I'm really sorry!
Arnav: Its okay! It wasnt your fault. In fact,I should be the one sayin sorry to buaji and everyone else. I came to our room jus' like that,without meetin anyone.
Khushi: You know what? Everybody loved the gifts which you'd chosen! Buaji was saying that she'll call you today to thank you for the gifts!
Arnav: And what bout your favorite? Did she like the gift which you'd chosen for her?
Khushi: Oh yes,she did! And not just Lakshmiji even naniji was pleased with the gift!
Arnav: Great! If I get time,I'll call buaji from the office itself. But still,jus' remind me bout it after I'm back.
Khushi: I'll remind you in the afternoon itself since.. you'll come home late tonight. Isnt it?

Khushi: What do you think? I mean.. by what time will you be able to come home?
Arnav: I cant say anythin for sure but.. if my work is over on time,then I'll be home by 10 pm. If not then.. anywhere between 12 n 1 am. So,please, have dinner with the family.
Khushi: Today's your first day in office after the trip. So.. cant you come home a little earlier? By.. 8 pm or something?
Arnav: Khushi,I'm not a school goin kid who'll get a half holiday on the day the school reopens after the vacations!
Khushi: When did I say that you were a kid? I was just saying that.. if you could come home by 8,we couldve had dinner with the family.
Arnav: Ya but we already had dinner with them last night. Tonight.. I don think it'll be possible.
A disappointed Khushi goes back to hugging him while burying her face in his chest.
Arnav: Hey?
Khushi: hmm?
Arnav: Tomorrow's Sunday,right?
Khushi: Yeah,it is. So?
Arnav: So we'll have dinner with the family tomorrow,okay?
Khushi: We'll be going to Chandni Chowk tomorrow.
Arnav: I know but arent we goin there in the mornin?
Khushi: Yes but I dont have dinner at home on the day I visit Chandni Chowk! My stomach is so full that there's no space for water in it,forget about a whole meal!
Arnav: Havin so much of street food is..
Khushi breaks the hug,ready to defend her favorite hangout.
Khushi(interrupts): I'm not talking about any random corner's street food! Its Chandni Chowk,mind you! Did you know that people come from remote places just to taste the delicacies of Chandni Chowk! You've not even..
Arnav(interrupts): Okay,okay! Relax! We had dinner with everyone last night. And.. I'll make it a point to have atleast 1 meal everyday with them.
Khushi: But that wont be possible today since we'll be leaving early for the temple.
Arnav: Right! I guess I should get goin now..
Khushi(holds his shoulder): Where are you going?
Arnav: Relax baby! I'm goin for a jog.
Khushi(hugging him): Dont go for a jog today! Please..
Arnav: I'll have to go. Didnt you hear what the dr said yesterday? Sugar level is high. So I'll have to exercise in order to keep it in control.
Khushi: Alright but.. wont you walk with me to the temple today? That is also a kind of exercise,isnt it?
Arnav: It is. But thats not enough. And you dont burn as much calories while walkin as you burn while joggin. After havin all that spicy and oily food last night, I desparately need to go for a jog today! Or else the sugar level will go higher..
Khushi(sighs): Okay,go. (turns to get up)I'll give you your tracksuit..
Arnav: No,thanks! I'll manage. You sleep for a while..
Khushi: No,I wont be able to sleep now. You change into your tracksuit meanwhile I'll fill your gym bottle.
It was only when she sat up that she noticed the unpleated,dishevelled state of her saree.
Khushi: oh no!
Arnav: BTW,why didnt you change last night? You couldve worn somethin comfortable like your nightgown or chemise.
Khushi(gathering the pleats): For whom would I wear all that? You were fast asleep. And when I went to sleep,I was so tired and sleepy that I didnt feel like doing anything else! Thats why I didnt even remove the jewellery.
Arnav: Niether did you remove your make up. Havent I toldl you countless times that you shouldnt go to sleep until you've removed your make up and jewellery? Its not good for your skin. *shifts her necklace* See these red lines on your neck?
Khushi nods while supressing a yawn.
Arnav: Dont wear any heavy jewellery today,okay?
Khushi: Hmm. If possible,you avoid wearing a tie today. You've been wearing this sherwani since yesterday. There must be marks on your neck as well.
Arnav sighs when she caresses his neck with her cold fingers.
Arnav: I'm fine. I'll jus'.. go and change.
Khushi(getting up): You can change over here. Your sherwani will get spoilt in the bathroom. I'm going downstairs to fill your gym bottle.
Arnav: Why dont you change into something comfortable?
Khushi(straightens her pallu): I'll do that later. You carry on..
She left the room after saying that.

"Oh no...!",groaned Arnav as he entered the bedroom,post his jogging session.
Khushi(concerned): what happened?
The towel,with which she was drying her hair,fell from her hands as she ran towards Arnav.

Arnav: I'm fine! But.. you..
Khushi(confused): Me? What happened to me?
Arnav(points to her dress): Why are you wearin this?

Khushi: Oh,this is your problem?! The way you exclaimed "oh no!" I thought something was wrong with you! Afterall you went for jogging after a really long time. So I feared that you mustve pulled your muscle!
Arnav: You still havent answered my question..
Khushi: Tell me something,honey. What would be more comfortable for a walk till the temple-anarkali or saree?
Arnav: I get your point.
Khushi: I'll wear a saree on Monday since I'll be going to office with you that day. Okay?
She kisses one of his sweaty cheeks.
Arnav: Okay.
Khushi: Now go & have your bath. I'm going to the kitchen.
Arnav: Fine.

Arnav: Yeah,tell me?
Khushi: If you get some time today,then please speak to Lavanyaji. If not today then make it a point to clear her misunderstanding in the next few days,i.e. before she leaves.
Arnav nods as he leaves for the bathroom.

Arnav: No nani. I'll hand over the keys to Mohan after reachin the premises. He'll drop her home.
Nani: That'll be better! I was..
Arnav(interrupts): I'm gettin late,nani.

Khushi: I'll take your leave,naniji.

Arnav had a hard time with Khushi on the road.
Arnav: How many times do I need to tell you to walk in any 1 direction?! 1 step to the left the next step to the right! What is wrong with you?
Khushi: Oh ho! I'm walking backwards na? So thats bound to happen. Forget about me and take a look at yourself. I told you n number of times: Dont wear your coat. But you never listened to me! Now see how you're soaked in sweat. We've just reached half..
She is about to stumble on a large stone when Arnav catches her.
Arnav: Stop talkin! Walk with your gaze fixed on the road!
Khushi: I wasnt talking,you were the 1 who started talking first! You never spoke a word where you should have and here you are talking so much!
Arnav(frowns): What do you mean?
Khushi: I'd asked you to speak to Lavanyaji. You got some time till breakfast was being prepared. Yet you didnt utilize..
Arnav(interrupts): I went up to her room to speak to her!
Khushi: Then why didnt you tell me about it? what did you say? What did she say?
Arnav(looks away): Nothin'..
Khushi(shocked): What? Was she that upset that she wasnt even ready to talk about it?
Arnav: No Khushi! I.. I couldnt say what I wanted to say..

Arnav: Coz NK chose that moment to interrupt us! He started irritatin me and I lost my cool..
*Flashback*
Arnav(knocks on the door): Lavanya?
Lavanya looks up from the magazine that was resting on her lap.
Lavanya(surprised): ASR?
Arnav: May I come in?
Lavanya: Come on ASR! Its your house! You dont need my permission!
Arnav: So,whats up?
Lavanya: Nothing much. You tell me.. Ready for office?
Arnav: Ya. uh.. Lavanya..
Lavanya: What happened?
Arnav: I wanted to talk to you bout..
Lavanya: If you're here to thank me for the gift or for the.. program then..
Arnav(interrupts): No! I.. Actually, I wanted to say somethin.. related to NK.
NK(entering the room): Tell me,mere bhai! What is it?
Arnav(thinks): Oh hell! Why did he have to come here right now!?
Lavanya(frowns): Related to NK.. as in?
NK: As in something about me,Anya! Am I right, Nannav? So you're here to reveal a saaz(Hindi word for secret),arent you?
Arnav: Its raaz,not saaz!
NK(holds his earlobe): Ya,sorry! So,whats the raaz?
Arnav: I'm not here to reveal secrets. (hesitates) I..
NK: What? Tell me?
Arnav: I uh..
NK: Why are you stuck on 'I'? Jus' say it,man! Jo bhi bolna hai jhul k bolo! (You're free to say whatever you want to!)
Arnav: Its not jhul k,its khul k! Right now I dont wanna say anythin! I'm jus.. in a rush. I'll catch you later. Excuse me..
*Flashback ends*
Khushi: You spoiled everything! So what if Nanheji came to her room? You couldve said it in front of..
Arnav: How could I say anything? He was not ready to shut his mouth!
Khushi(holds his hand): Okay,calm down. You want to speak to her in Nanheji's absence. So.. tomorrow I'll call Nanheji to the kitchen and keep him engaged in conversation. Meanwhile you speak to Lavanyaji,okay?
Arnav: You need not engage him in any conversation! I'll manage..
Khushi(shrugs): As you wish..
She lowers her gaze to the road and resumes walking backwards while chanting Devi Maiyya's name.
She was interrupted by Arnav a few minutes later.
Arnav: We're approachin a bus stop. You wanna sit for 5 minutes?
Khushi shakes her head while chanting Devi Maiyya's name under her breath.
She's surprised when Arnav stops her after a minute or so.
Arnav: Wait..
Khushi: I dont want to sit!
Arnav(thru gritted teeth): The kids are comin this way. You wanna bang into them or what?!
Khushi turns around to find two girls,in school uniforms,staring at her.
The younger one spoke up when Khushi smiled at them.
Younger girl: Aunty,why are you walking like that?
Khushi: a.. Beta, I've kept a mannat. So I'll have to walk like this till the temple.
Younger girl(frowns): What is a mannat?
Before Khushi could explain,she heard a voice from the other side of the road.
"Your bus is here,beta!"
Khushi turned towards the other side of the road to find a woman in her thirties with a white pug at her heels.
Younger girl: I need to leave for school. Bye aunty! *calls out* Bye mumma! Bye Snoopy!
The dog barks and runs across the road till the divider.
Younger girl(shocked): No Snoopy!
The pug gets scared when a jeep passes by.
Woman(yells): Snoopy! Come back!
As soon as the road is clear,it runs all the way across to where the younger girl was standing.
Khushi shifts closer to Arnav and grabs his hand as they dog sniffs her.
However a smile appears on her lips when she hears the little girl scolding her pet.
Girl: Bad boy! Why did you cross the road on your own? What if you got hurt?
The older girl calls her from the bus.
Older girl: Hurry up,Shaalu!
In the meantime the mother walks towards them and the dog starts running the moment it sees her.
Mother: Snoopy,wait! (to the girl)Beta,you go or else the bus driver will yell at you for coming late!
Khushi watches the dog running farther as the mother runs after it.
Finally the mother catches hold of it and takes it in her arms.
The way the mother holds the dog reminds Khushi of Lakshmi.
Khushi: When Lakshmiji went missing and I'd gone to look for her,I'd found her on the street. I had also carried her home like that. But,by Devi Maiyya's grace,Lakshmiji didnt run so fast!
Arnav: Can we move ahead now?
Khushi: Sure!
She let go of his hand and resumed walking.
Arnav stopped her again after 5 minutes.
Khushi: Who's it now?
Arnav(points behind her): Why dont you check 'em out yourself!
Khushi turns around to find 3 cows walking towards her.
Khushi: Oh,they?! They wont do anything!
Arnav: Still,its better to be outta their way..
They move aside and allow the cows to pass.
Khushi: We got a darshan of Gaay maata which means that the temple is close by.
Arnav: How can you say that?
Khushi: Coz many people feed cows and buffaloes outside the temple. So you'll find a number of cows and buffaloes in the areas around the temple.
Arnav: I see.. Then we should go carefully.
Khushi: How can I not walk carefully when you're with me!?
Arnav: Enough! Lets go..
Khushi resumed chanting Devi Maiyya's name while taking slow steps backwards.
As per the plan,Arnav called Akash the moment they reached the temple.
By the time they were through with the darshan,Aakash had already reached the temple.
They found him waiting outside as they descended the stairs.
Khushi: Have some prasaad..
Akash(smiles): Thanks Khushiji!
He turned to Arnav after having the prasaad.
Akash: Shall we go,bhai?
Arnav: Sure! Come Khushi..
Khushi nodded and followed them to the car.
Once the car halted in the parking lot of AR,Akash got down first.
Arnav(turns to her): Bye!
Khushi was conscious of the fact that Akash was standing outside.
Thus she smiled at Arnav even though she wanted to hug him.
Khushi: Thanks for fulfilling my mannat!
Arnav(pats her cheek): Its okay!
After a brief eyelock,Arnav left with Akash while Khushi sat staring at their retreating backs.
Khushi: Come home early.. if possible.
She checked herself as she saw Mohan approaching the car.
Mohan(smiles): Namaste bhabhiji!
Khushi: Namaste Mohanji! How are you?
Mohan: I'm fine. How about you?
Khushi: I'm.. quite okay. uh.. Have some prasaad..

Arnav(looks up from the laptop): Yes Akash?
Akash: I'm sending Mohan to Shantivan.

Arnav(smiles): Are you goin out for a movie?
Akash: No bhai. Paayal.. will bring my dinner.
Arnav nods.
Akash: I was thinking that.. you could go home with him. You've been busy since morning. You need a break now..
Arnav: Yes,I need a break and (smirks)you need to spend some time with her!
Akash gives a shy cum embarassed smile in reply.
Arnav: Why did you ask her to bring dinner to the office? You could've taken her out..
Akash: No bhai. Actually,Paayal prefers home cooked food since she's pregnant. So..
Arnav: Oh,okay. By the way,how are things with her? I hope the baby's fine?
Akash(smiles): Ya,the baby's fine,bhai. The first ultrasound is scheduled for next week. (smiles)We're looking forward to seeing the baby!
Arnav(smiles): Thats great! I'm really happy for you both!
He walks over to Akash and hugs him.
Akash: Thanks!
Arnav: Ask Mohan to take out the car 10 minutes later. I'll jus' pack up in the meantime..
Akash: Sure!
Arnav(thinks): I should be home by 8.30. (smiles)Khushi will be very happy to see me back in time for dinner! We'll have dinner with the family and then..
He smiles to himself as he shuts down his laptop.

Arnav tiptoed towards the bedroom, expecting to find Khushi unpacking or doing some other work.
He secretly hoped that he would get to hear her singing.
He was,therefore,shell shocked to find her sitting on the edge of the bed grasping the cordless phone
with both hands.
There were tears in her eyes & on her cheeks.
"Why didnt you tell me earlier,amma? And who told you about it? When did it happen?"
Arnav's heart lurched upon hearing these words from Khushi's mouth.
Had something happened to babuji? Or was it.. buaji?
He nearly ran towards the bed,startling Khushi in the process.
Arnav(hand on her shoulder): What happened Khushi? Is.. babuji alright?
Khushi nodded briefly before gesturing him to sit next to her.
When he sat down,she rested her head on his shoulder.
Khushi: yes,amma.. tell me. Why was I not informed about his death? And where is babuji right now?
Amma tried her best to pacify her daughter in a soothing tone.
Amma: Calm down,bitiya. Your babuji left for Lucknow by the late night bus. Bhaisa'ab passed away yesterday afternoon. He died peacefully in his sleep.
When Khushi closed her eyes an image of the ever smiling Tanveer chachaa popped up in her mind.
Arnav,meanwhile,wrapped his arms around Khushi & waited for the phone call to get over.
Amma: Your babuji came to know about it in the evening itself. But he kept quite since we had to attend your anniversary party. He told us only when we reached home,bitiya.
Khushi: You couldve told me at that time,amma.
Amma: I didnt want to spoil your mood. I havent even told Payalia about is as yet. In fact,I was planning to inform you after your babuji's return.
Khushi: But your voice ditched you! Its good that I came to know of it. I cant recall his phone number. Please give it to me. I'll speak to chachi tonight itself.
Amma: Let it be,bitiya. Bhabhiji must be busy with the guests tonight.
Khushi(interrupts): Okay then I'll call her tomorrow. But I want the number right now!
Amma(sighs): I'll give you the number. And listen..
Khushi(interrupts): Understood. I wont say anything to jiji..

Once the call ended,Khushi turned to Arnav & hugged him tight.
Arnav gently ran a hand through her hair whilst giving her a few moments to compose to herself.
Arnav(breaks the hug): What happened,Khushi? (cups her face) Who.. passed away?
Khushi(nods): Tanveer chachaa. Didnt I tell you? He was our next door neighb..
Arnav(interrupts): Ya,I remember. What caused his death?
Khushi: He had high sugar since many years. And he became a victim of heart disease some time back. He did go for an operation but his health didnt really improve after that. When I spoke to chachi a few months back,she told me that they'd spent a bomb on his treatment but they didnt get the desired result. In the last few months,chachi went to a number of hospitals with chachaa, she served him night and day,did all that was possible but still.. (sighs)she couldnt save him. May be he passed away because of.. a heart attack?
She pauses to release a shaky breath.
Khushi: You know something, Arnavji? Chachaa used to think of me as his daughter. And he was just like my babuji for me. He would sit outside his house on an easy chair and read the newspaper for a really long time. Whenever he would see me passing by,he would call me.. Then he would ask me to sit and have a chit with him. You would always find a smile on his lips and a pair of specs perched on his nose!..(sighs) How I wish he wouldve survived till our Lucknow visit! That way,I couldve got a chance to meet him once again.. to touch his feet.. too see him smile..
Arnav kisses her after hugging her close.
Khushi: Amma was telling me that instead of being sad,I should be happy since his soul was liberated peacefully..
Arnav: I think she's right. He was sufferin since a long time. It mustve been painful for him.. And it must not have been easy for his family to bear the expenses of his treatment. Besides,nani says that whoever dies in his sleep does not feel any pain. That person leaves peacefully. Nanaji also.. left like that.
Khushi lifted her head to gaze at him with a tear stricken face.
Khushi: What had happened to nanaji?
Arnav: He had multiple health problems.. His body had become weak because of all the medicines that he was havin and.. (gulps) ultimately it succumbed..
Khushi: How old were you at that time?
Arnav: Almost 21.. I was studyin at Harvards' when.. all this took place.
Khushi(cups his cheek): When I hear all this I feel it wouldve been much better if.. I was there with you when nanaji passed away! And you would've been there with me when phuphaji passed away or when naniamma passed away! Or.. when.. my amma-babuji.. (pauses)I wish we knew each other since the time when we were kids!
Arnav holds her hand & kisses it.
Khushi: I had the support of my family but you? I'm sure you wouldve shrugged off anyone who would've tried to support you! You're like a tree when it comes to offering support. But when it comes to taking it,you turn into a mountain!
Arnav(frowns): What do u mean?
Khushi: You support everyone like a tree which gives fruits,flowers and shade to the passersby. But when someone offers to support you,you become like a mountain. A tree can bend and take the support of the adjacent tree but a mountain? Niether it bends nor does it move! It stays where it is and faces everything from storms to landslides! Like yourself! No matter how sad you were from within,you mustve been rock solid like a mountain from outside..
Arnav(nods): I was like that earlier but I've changed now. (squeezes her hand)Even I've got a support system now! (smiles)So,I'm a tree now!
Khushi kisses the back of his hand.
Arnav(wipes her tears): Wash your face. Come on..
Khushi: Let me pray to Devi Maiyya first!
She stands in front of the idol with closed eyes & folded hands.
Khushi: Hey Devi Maiyya! Please grant peace to the soul of Tanveer chachaa! If I've ever hurt him,knowingly or unknowingly,then please forgive me for the same!
Arnav: The one who had to leave has left,Khushi. If you really wanna pray to Devi Maiyya then pray for those who're left behind. They're the ones who'll have to live with his absence now..
Khushi nods before praying for his family.
Then Arnav scoops her in his arms & carries her to the bathroom.
Khushi: Why?
Arnav(placing her on the bathroom floor): What why?
Khushi: The bathroom is attached to our bedroom. Then why did you take me in your arms?
Arnav: Coz I felt that (tweaks her nose)this tree needs some support right now!
Khushi hugs him once again.
Arnav(pats her back): I know how you're feeling,baby. But go easy on yourself. You've not slept well last night. Your eyes must be burning,I'm sure. If you cry so much,your eyes will hurt much more.(breaks the hug)And I dont want that! (kisses her parting)I'll go & change. Till then you freshen up. Then we'll go downstairs for dinner.
Khushi nods before he leaves the bathroom.

Arnav(cups her cheek): What happened?
Khushi: I'm sorry!
Arnav: What for?
Khushi: I got late last night and.. you fell asleep by the time I came to our bedroom. So.. we couldnt have sex. And tonight I'm not..
Arnav(interrupts): Come on,Khushi! You really feel that I'll even think bout sex after seein your conditon tonight?
Khushi: No,thats not what I meant!
Arnav: Then why did you say sorry? You're not to be blamed for whatever happened last night or for uncle's death,okay? So dont say sorry for that!
Khushi: Okay,I wont. (arm around him)Please dont be upset!
Arnav: I'm not upset. Lie down now.. You need to take rest..
He lies down next to her after switching off the lights.
Khushi immediately leans closer to him & wraps her arms around his neck.
Arnav gathers her to himself before covering them with the quilt.
He pats her head and runs a hand through her hair alternately till she falls asleep.
He falls asleep shortly thereafter.

Khushi: You want to go the market in such an expensive car?
Arnav: Then how do you want us to go?

Arnav: Dont tell me that you wanna go in a rickshaw!
Khushi: Its okay if you dont want to go in a rickshaw! We can go by the metro! Anyways,its been a long time since I've travelled in a metro.
Arnav(doubtfully): Met.. ro? Till Chandni chowk?
Khushi(non-chalantly): Ya! I havent asked you to go till Chandigarh! Its only till Chandni chowk! (holds his hand)Lets go by the metro.. (excited) It'll be a fun ride!
Arnav: Every ride is a joyride for you!
