Fortunately, Ekta Kapoor bought the rights of this show, from the makers of its namesake film; which forbade her from making it a typical Balaji serial with a cheesy heroine and tacky subplots; however, she has not shied away from adding her signature formula here too.

Unlike, as depicted in any historical source or the film (for which the production house, skillfully telecasts disclaimers throughout the show), again the man, Akbar is unreasonably cruel, while Jodha is the epitome of everything good, but what is undesirable of Jodha Akbar is, it is deeply and painfully communal, where almost all the antagonists are unnecessarily portrayed to be Muslims.

1x1.trans 5 Popular Yet Deeply Sexist TV Serials of Our Generation

The most distressing feature of every Balaji serial is being so grossly patriarchal as they tend to be, not only are the women marginalized, but men become the worst victims of misrepresentation and stereotyping too.

When will the Balaji Czarina realize that all men are not born rude, cruel and sadists and it does not mandatorily take a woman to instill compassion into him!

I am bit confused about this article. Of course I have no previous experience of Ekta BT serials and after JA I can safely say I hopefully will not acquire also!!!
Is this written to drive away attention from the sick stuff they show like drugging of child etc. changing the subject?! 😕

I think except for Ruk turned pitch black all other characters like Adham MA Sharifuddin were to true depictions. MA was in fact glorified.
SB HB GB Adga Khan Jiji Anga, Aziz Koka are all shown very good.

Where are they even showing any Amer characters? MS and Todarmal hardly have any roles!

I am sure if these characters were given more screen space might have seen them distorted too.

Akbar was said to be very cruel in his younger days right?

I wish they had not turned characters black or white. 😕 Grays are far more interesting.

The Jalal Jodha Ruk of first 100-150 episodes were far more interesting than this foolish goody two shoes and spineless ones they have turned them into.

Before JA - I did not even know Ruk SB existed.
I am sure by now NOBODY much believes any portrayal of this JA. They have not left one character with dignity intact positive OR negative.

Still can't understand why in the article mentioned about religion.. When truly the story about JA where MA character & death is glorified, now showing more negative tracks like drugging a 8 year old child that too FUTURE king where parents are dumb not to recognize it. Now JA is the only show where the leads are dumb & villains are intelligent..👏

but the writer only focused on the initial plots/tracks of JA n YHM, it is clear from the article.
all antagonists r Muslims..?! haan yeh toh hai...lekin yeh Mughals pe based hai, they r showing those persons antagonists who were antagonists in real..like MA, Adham, Sharifu, Mali or Chuchak...Ruqaiyya is grey..now she turned a vamp though.

there r hardly any Hindus shown in the show except Amer clan.

Tamy, what they mean is they try to show that Hindus suffered, by paying taxes, like Jaziya, while, the Jaziya tax as shown in the show, is not at all close to history, and such incidents. 😳
