I think salman khan wanted Ali to respect elder as well but to take a stand.
Arya was clearly saying that he will not respect Puneet sir and he started talking about Puneet hurting super star in India etc. So It might not be about stand, It might be putting forth your point while still addressing each other respectfully.

As 4u_tweets said, salman khan also mentioned that you do correct things, audience is see who is wrong and who is right. so maybe salman khan is indirectly saying audience is watching Puneet's mistakes.

Or it could all be bad editing.

guys arya could have taken stand without screaming at punz n he was wrong also he did take name of ali n diandra in front of punz...ya respect doesn't come with age but guys even in game if u speak against evil elderly family connection person politely ya speak sure shot speak take stand but if u speak politely inspite of being angry n disrespectful that shows your class n standard not punz... he is bad but u were still civil with him becoz of elder age that makes you bigger person not a lesser person... n public sees this so they think better of you...
