Pakhi's Journey with Love
If we hold on to relationships that are not meant to be, we can never attract new things into our life. We will forever be living in the past than moving forward into the future.
I find it a cruel irony that Pakhi who logically knows that she should move on, is lingering on to the past. I say cruel irony because Pakhi is a very sensitive woman; she is normally very thoughtful and respectful of the people around her. And yet, contrary to her inner nature she is being insensitive of everyone's feelings, including that of Ayaan and her inner conscience.
By denying Veer the rightful place of a husband she is insulting Veer and his friendship, denying Ayaan of a father, and turning a deaf ear to her conscience. Pakhi knew she could not look Veer in the eye and tell him her plans for karwa chauth day. So she silently slipped away while he was still asleep. Pakhi knew she it would be inappropriate to ask Ayaan to do the rituals for Anshuman, so she walked away alone without taking him.
As per Hindu customs neither Lavanya nor Pakhi can do these rituals, for they do not share the same ancestry as Anshuman. Lavanya and Pakhi after marriage (or re-marriage in the case of Pakhi) belong to different ancestral lineage. Only Ayaan can do these rituals, however Pakhi did not request Ayaan to accompany her.
Lavanya did not ask for Ayaan to be present at the ritual because her true intention is not to appease Anshuman's soul. Her intention behind doing the ritual is to snub Jiji by demonstrating that Pakhi belongs to her dead brother Anshuman, and not Jiji's brother Veer. And, that Pakhi does not belong to Jiji's family as Pakhi does not consider Veer to be her husband.
Lavanya is being true to her nature. She, her mother Anuja, and (late) brother Anshuman plot and plan to cruelly humiliate anyone who does not tolerate their haughtiness.
Pakhi and Anshuman are pawns that Lavanya is using to get at Jiji and (indirectly) Veer. In doing all this Lavanya is irrevocably hurting Pakhi and Ayaan. Lavanya is aware of the damage she is causing Pakhi and Ayaan but she does not care. If Pakhi is fool enough to fall for her trick so be it!!
Pakhi is intelligent but under the circumstances she is vulnerable. She is being forced to choose. In spite of her better instincts she is being drawn into Lavanya's cheap trick.
Logically Pakhi knows that Veer is a gem of a man and no matter what - Veer understands her.
Somewhere deep down Pakhi knows that Anshuman cannot hold a candle to Veer. She has lived with both Anshuman and Veer and she knows the difference between the two. I have listed below those that I have noted.
Pakhi-Anshuman Relationship | Pakhi-Veer Relationship |
Anshuman constantly made demands on Pakhi and set impossible deadlines. | Veer makes no demands on Pakhi. |
Anshuman made life difficult for Pakhi - it was difficult for him to understand why she smiled in the midst of difficulties. | Veer tries to put a smile on Pakhi's face and bring joy in her life. |
Anshuman was jealous at the mention of Rohit, Pakhi's childhood friend. | Veer has no problems with Pakhi living in the past. |
Anshuman gave Pakhi so much pain that he drove her away from him | Their togetherness is helping Pakhi forget her pain and move ahead |
Anshuman wanted Pakhi to change, example he wanted her to wear skimpy clothes. He was trying to change her to fit his expectations rather accepting her for who she is and enabling her to grow. | Veer does not expect Pakhi to change for him. He is enabling her to grow as an individual |
Pakhi worked at changing Anshuman so that he fit her expectations. She too could not accept him as he was. | Pakhi does not expect Veer to change for her. She is enabling him to grow as an individual |
Pakhi kept justifying Anshuman's actions to herself. By this I mean, she was uncomfortable with Anshuman's actions, and she was explaining away (or justify to herself) the discomfort. | Pakhi and Veer share a mutually comfortable relationship and are very honest to each other and respectful of the other. |
Anshuman hurt Pakhi verbally and emotionally | Veer treats Pakhi respectfully anytime he raises his voice (even in frustration at himself) he immediately apologizes |
Anshuman put little effort in the relationship | Veer and Pakhi are putting equal effort in the relationship |
Pakhi's and Anshuman's fundamental values and beliefs were different | Veer and Pakhi share the same fundamental values and beliefs |
