Arjun Kapoor: We need unbiased sources to share box office collections

IANS Mumbai, October 21, 2014 | UPDATED 17:49 IST

Actor Arjun Kapoor, son of producer Boney Kapoor, Tuesday said that it is time to formalise the information platform giving figures about box office collections of the releases.

He was speaking on the last day of the 16th Mumbai Film Festival, organised by the Moving Academy of Images (MAMI), in a session focusing on the marketing and box office trends in India.

"We had an interesting session on box office collections and the marketing strategy. As an actor I feel box office is not the only idea to make films. But as far as the collections are concerned, you see a huge disparity in the collections on each and every website," Arjun told reporters.
Arjun said that it is time to formalise the information platform giving figures about box office collections of the releases.
"So, we want one reliable source who will put up the accurate figures, which should be unbiased... We need information from one source about the box office (collections). If we check the collections of our films overseas, you see the accurate collections. But it doesn't happen here.

"So there has to be a legal and official way to put the awareness somewhere. It will take time. We have huge number of theatres, but hope within a year we get this thing going," added the star of films like "Ishaqzaade".

The 16th edition of the Mumbai Film Festival, which ends Tuesday, showcased over 185 films from more than 65 countries.

Talking about the festival, Arjun said: "As an actor I feel one should watch all kinds of films. This is the right platform to showcase different kinds of films."

For once, he makes sense and I agree with him.

BoxOfficeIndia is correct most of the times with collections but their verdicts seem way too biased. There is no transparency as far as verdicts are concerned.

There needs to be a clear demarcation made - that this was the budget, this was the distributor's price and this was the nett collections. If the collections are less than 50% of the disitributors' price, disaster, if it's less than 100% flop. If it's less than 115% below average, and so on... so that there will be a concrete method in place.

Very well said
So much disparity

As audience we are left confused. We need one reliable site

Also some one take legal action against these roshans. Exaggerating numbers is an offence like piracy and those doing it should be punished. We need strict rules now.
