Kajol has a new comeback vehicle thanks to hubby Ajay Devgn who has bought the rights of 2014 Malayalam hit How Old Are You. The actress who has been on a break since the birth of the couple's son, Yug, in 2010, will lead the cast of its Hindi remake. Ajay is yet to finalise the director.
Says a source, "Ever since Ajay's deal with the producers of the Penoza remake fell through, Ajay had been looking for a subject."Adds the source, "Kajol loved the film and is keen to return to acting."
The Southern film revolves around 36-year-old Nirupama (played by Manju Warrier) who works as a clerk in the Revenue Department. Her husband, Rajeev Narayanan, (Kunchako Boban), who works with a radio station, wants to immigrate to Ireland but Nirupama is unable to find a job abroad.
One day, she gets an opportunity to interact with the President of India but the disastrous outing makes her the target of Facebook trolls. Adding to the insults, her husband and daughter relocate to Ireland without her. What follows is a journey of self-discovery for Nirupama.
Kajol, who was last seen as a cancer stricken mother in We Are Family, Siddharth Malhotra's 2010 remake of the Hollywood film Stepmom, will return to face the camera next year.
Interestingly, Manju too made her comeback with the original after a 15-year sabbatical. Meanwhile, Tamil actor Suriya has also bought the rights of this film for a Tamil remake which will mark his wife Jyothika's return to the big screen after seven years.
