Rukhsar says no to Ramu

Actress Rukhsar returned to B-Town in 2005, after a decade long hiatus with Ram Gopal Varma's Sarkar. Though she featured in Varma's D immediately after, she has once again disappeared from the big screen.

It is learnt that Rukshar was recently asked to return to her role as Amrita (wife to Kay Kay Menon's character Vishnu) in the sequel to Sarkar, but she turned it down. The sequel stars the Bachchans (Amitabh, Abhishek and Aishwarya) and has been titled Sarkar Raj.

Sob story

Bechari no more: Rukhsar

"It's true," says Rukhsar, about the offer. "Ramu did have a role for me but I explained my reservations to him and he understood."

Rukhsar claims her biggest dilemma post Sarkar was her image. "Thanks to the character I played — a dukhyari woman — everyone wanted me to play similar roles.

It became difficult for me to break free from the image as filmmakers began to think I could only play a bechari woman. I did not want to get stereotyped," she says.

As a result, Rukhsar preferred to decline Ramu's offer.

"Kay Kay's character died in the first film, so I had my doubts about what Amrita would do with him not being around.

I felt she would be even more dukhyari now!"

When asked about this, Ramu quips, "Rukshar has no role in Sarkar Raj. I did offer her a part in the scripting stages, but it was discarded in the final draft. As for what happens to Amrita and her son, you'll have to watch Sarkar Raj to find out."

Playing safe

It was for this reason that Rukhsar went missing from the silver screen post her much-publicised comeback. "I prefer to do commercials, music videos and shows now.

There are television offers, but what's the point of playing a grandmother? I'm looking at non-fiction genres too," she says.

In the early '90s, Rukhsar featured in films like Yaad Rakhegi Duniya with Aditya Panscholi and Inteha Pyar Ke with Rishi Kapoor.

Yeah she was really good in Sarkar, hope Ramu finds as a good replacement for her. Me to cant wait for sarkar 2.

You should watch "Yaad Rakhegi Duniya". She was amazing in that film. I simply loved her character. For once I also liked Aditya Pancholi in that film. It was a love story. Very cute film.😛
