They tell you that Aamir was no.1 in Box Office pull, SRK in endorsements and Salman mainly for his fan following on SM. But overall points was counted from monthly rankings. Which has a archive on their site.

He didn't have a single release in 2013 and yet he is number 1. Not that i don't like him, but it doesn't sound reasonable. It's mostly based on how visible you are in the media, no doubt.
