Ranbir Kapoor says yes to Rajkumar Hirani for the Sanjay Dutt biopic

It's official now. Ranbir Kapoor has given his nod to Rajkumar Hirani for the Sanjay Dutt biopic. He will play the currently incarcerated actor on screen.

Though Ranbir had shown interest in the subject, he was mulling over the decision. Hirani too was undecided about the project.

Not so long ago, Ranbir had told a section of the media, "Portraying Sanju sir on screen is a big task. And it comes with a huge responsibility. He's had a very entertaining, engaging, and a roller-coaster kind of a life. I think Raju sir himself hasn't decided if he wants to do it or not."

In an interview to Mirror (May 10, 2014), Sanjay's sister, Priya Dutt, had backed the casting of Ranbir.

Last week, the actor told Hirani that he could start working on the script and screenplay keeping him in mind.

A source close to the development said: "Hirani is very happy. He now has an interesting story to tell and a talented actor to say it with. Ranbir, like Sanju, is the darling of the masses." Added the source, "But it's not going to be an easy story to depict.

Sanjay has had many ups and downs in his life." Buzz is, Hirani will put the biopic on the floors only when Dutt, who is serving a jail term in the 1993 Mumbai blast case, is a free bird.
