MILAN- The Final Destination
EPILOGUE
Geet, we'll get late.
Shaking her head, Geet puffed her cheeks. You know, we still have an hour left. She said coming out of the kitchen with Tiffin in hand. The father-daughter duo were impatiently waiting there, Maan putting black shoes on Jia's small feet and Jia sincerely suckling on her upper lip simultaneously playing with her ponies.
Geet stole a moment to take in the adorable scene before her. Maan on his knees, fastening the school shoes ever so carefully so that they won't be too tight to hurt his beloved daughter or too loose to slip off when she walked. Geet saw the subtle shake of his hands and his handsome set of jaws clenched firmly. Her heart squeezed. Bored, Jia ducked her face into Maan's hairs and purred, a weird noise coming out of her mouth.
Princess, sit straight, Daddy can't see like this. He spoke, smile in voice. Geet picked Jia's new bag and stuffed the new tiffen box into it. Honestly, she was a bit emotional herself. It didn't happened everyday that your precious 6-year old went to school for the very first time. It bothered Geet immensely that she wasn't a part of Jia's life since birth. But then she thought about Shreya, who got much lesser of her tiny angel and realized that she should collect as much as she could. Life was too short and Jia was growing too fast.
We are ready. Maan announced standing up taking Jia's hand in his bringing her to feet. Only Geet heard the gruffness in his voice. She passed him a smile running her hand through his hairs. It was both cute and heartbreaking to see Maan nervous and dismal on Jia's first day of school.
Daddy, I don't wike grey. Jia said holding the hem of her grey tunic. Her habit of mispronunciation of several words was very much sorted but some words she still couldn't get right.
Maan frowned taking her words seriously like always. He looked at Geet-the frown deepening-then back at Jia. You don't? Baby, you should have told before, we would have chosen another school. Maybe I should talk to the principal and-
Maan... Geet said rolling her eyes. She picked Jia up in her arms. You know princess, Mommy thinks grey really suits you and this school dress makes you look veryyy lovely.
Really?
Really.
When it came to being lovely, Jia adored and trusted Geet. Otey. She said and kept her head on her mommy's shoulder.
Geet grinned. Like Maan needed anymore reasons to love her. What in the world he would have done without his toy girl?
Dadimaa came with a thaal and did arti of Jia putting a small tika on her forehead and feeding her dahi chini. Rohan and Shanaya also came there to wish good luck to Jia.
Princess if some guy troubles you then tell me, I will break his limbs. Rohan said making Jia giggle while Maan glared at his cousin. He was still working on the art of disregard when it came to Rohan.
First, she is my princess and if some idiot would irk her she'll come to her daddy. Won't you princess?
Jia-who barely understood anything-nodded her head and Rohan made a face, Jia's face fell. Daddy was a clear choice but the tiny angel still felt bad for her chachu.
You made her sad. Maan accused.
No I didn't you jumped in middle.
They make it seem like she is going for a boarding school or something. Geet held back a giggle and obtained a firm face before pulling Maan's ear. Aah, what the f- He stopped himself from cussing before Jia.
Serves you right. Rohan said just before a slap hit his head from his angry wife.
Maan laughed and then kissed Geet's wrist. Jolted with the sudden rush of pleasure, she jerked her hand back from his ear. He winked at her naughtily. Badi aayi thi mera kaan pakadne. He said haughtily with a devilish smirk pulling Jia into his arms and walking out with her small bag hanging on his shoulder. Jaw slacked and cheeks scarlet, Geet glared at his back throwing virtual daggers.
In the car Jia sat in between her mommy n daddy. If you need anything or have some problem inform the teacher, okay? She will help you. Geet told.
Yeah n if she is unable to help you ask her to call me. Maan said. Maaneet reiterated all the instructions to Jia for the thousandth time.
Getting out of the car Maan felt a load settle over him. He looked at his daughter who was just the same, she was still light in his arms, she smiled the same way with one of her teeth missing, and she looked just the same. Although, that was most probably because he saw her every day, enough to not make out the subtle yet consistent changes in her. The truth was his daughter was growing up, at a speed of bullet train, just yesterday he had seen her for the first time in the hospital bed. Her face was the size of an apple, utterly delicate and tiny under in his palm and now she was going to school. SCHOOL' in caps.
Maan was having difficulty in breathing while Geet kissed Jia's cheeks. He sat on the ground and cupped Jia's face. It's going to be alright, okay? You will rock.
Jia grinned n in turn cupped Maan's cheeks which barely fit in her hands. It's going to be alright, otey? She said in same tone repeating Maan's words like she always did. Maan nodded drawing strength from his daughter's understanding. He pecked her cheeks. Lub you. She called. Once she started to go into the building, the aaya taking her away, he started to panic.
Geet, I don't think it's the right time. She is still too small and I don't think she could manage without us. I mean she had never been out at a place full of strangers without anyone from the family. What if she falls or- he didn't even want to think of the various possibilities. I should go and get her back. Geet held his hand looking at him with her warm eyes.
Maan, our daughter is smart. And she would be between kids of her age, she will make friends and enjoy, she could draw which she loves so much and see others doing the same. There would always be a teacher to look after her. We have already waited a bit too long to start her studies. We can't stall more. She has to start sometime.
He sighed, shoulders slumping. Geet decided to drive back since Maan was feeling so low. He silently sulked in his seat throughout the drive. Upon reaching the mansion he didn't talk to anyone and went to check on his second kid who was sleeping peacefully on his bed. Look he is smiling. Geet said coming from behind and wrapping her hands around his waist. Druv was a cute little thing at the age of two, a healthy, plump boy who was limitlessly naughty and liked to work his mumma-papa up. Maan often commented that Druv had gotten that trait from Geet, like he was the most upright kid ever. But Geet had to admit, Druv was a handful although raising him was never tough when Maan was there with her.
Meera always complained that Karan was a lazy ass when it came to being responsible and taking care of their one year old baby. Geet had no such complains because Maan was amazing in that regard, he was sensitive and knew better than her how to take care of kids. He was the one who taught her how to change dippers and other dos n donts and when Druv used to cry at nights he pacified him, careful that her sleep didn't get disturbed. His excuse was that by going through the delivery pain Geet had done her share and now it was Maan's duty to take care of his three kids-Geet included.
I think he is dreaming about girls. Maan joked when his voice was still filled with grief. After all he is my son.
Geet punched his arm playfully. You dreamed about girls?
No, only a certain girl with chocolaty eyes and a big, bewitching smile. He pecked Druv's forehead and walked out the door, Geet followed him to the room which he had made for her. He went there whenever he felt sad or wanted sex. Right now it wasn't the later Geet knew. I want to spend some time alone. He spoke sitting on bed facing away from her n gazing out of the window. Coming in front of him she obstructed his view so he would look at her. You can't. Why are you being stupid and ignoring me? What is wrong- He looked up and she held her breath. His dark eyes were filled with tears. She had seen tears in his eyes since long, since he had held Druv in his hands for the first time. He was scaring her.
Jaan, kya hua?
He rounded his hands in a jiffy around her and pulled her close so that his head got buried into her stomach. I am scared. Kyu? Because Jia started school. It's too soon. His voice was gruff and he spoke too fast, Geet had to concentrate to understand. She has started school today then she will go to college and in a few years after that she will get married and same with Druv. He might live with us but Jia, she would have to leave.
Geet laughed when her own eyes had their share tears in them. You are mad. They might go to live somewhere else but our kids will always be a part of our lives. And with how much you love them, you, daddy dear, will always be their favorite and mine too.
It feels too rushed. I wish I could stop time so everything would remain just like this.
Hmm... Geet nodded, massaging his head with her fingers. Strangely she understood how he felt. Maan didn't love easily, but when he did it was beyond any boundaries. I am always going to be here, we'll together grow old and when our grandkids will make fun of us, calling us oldies n all, we'll kick their ass together. Our teeth will shed off, yet we will kiss. We'll be grubby and irritable, and everyone around us will maintain their distance, then it will just be the two of us, living together and loving each other.
Maan chuckled and the action tickled her stomach. When it comes to kissing, I will trade the teeth for a tongue any day and I am never going to be grubby and irritable.
Haan-haan. Mr. Cool Singh Khurana. He sighed and lay back on the bed pulling her with him. They laid there staring at the ceiling for a long time contemplating the past and the future, his hands stroking her body, arousing her involuntarily. She pouted, finding it idiotic to blankly stare at the ceiling like lunatics but held back a complaint for his sake.
Since we both have taken a day off, we could do something with our time. Like what? Geet asked relieved. Junior Khurana is not going to be up for another hour; you can do something to cheer me up.
Geet raised a naughty brow. I repeat, like what?
He shrugged. Use your creativity.
Hmm... She glided her hand under his pants to cup the massive manhood there, surprised to feel that he was already hard. Crying like kid, aur andar se... che-che babaji.
He made a baby face. Even in sadness I can't ignore your proximity, it makes me mad. I love you so much. She kissed him then, thoroughly then pinched the inside of his thigh. He gasped and moaned. Same pinch.
