PEOPLE IN INDIA ARE IGNORANT'
Sonam Kapoor pities those who slam her for being frank about what she feels; she thinks poor conditioning has left these people ignorant'
Be it about showing the middle finger at a press conference, calling Aishwarya Rai Bachchan aunty' or taking a different stand on the recent Deepika Padukone-cleavage controversy, Sonam Kapoor has never shied away from being frank about what she feels. Although it has often put her in a tight spot, the 29-year-old has no qualms admitting that she is indeed moohfat' (outspokan).
"Yes, I'm a moohfat. Everybody knows I have a foot-in-mouth syndrome... like all five toes," laughs Sonam.
The actor often gets criticised for her candid remarks, but she doesn't feel that professional rivalry or jealousy is the reason why people do that to her. "It's not jealousy... people who criticise me are ignorant. People in India are ignorant and that makes us backward," says Sonam, who finds it strange that people judge her all the time.
"Don't judge anything or anybody when you don't see the full picture. But then I understand, it's because they don't know better. You know when you conform to a certain society, and you are conditioned to be a certain way, you don't know things. It's like telling a young girl who's never been out of the house that the world is scary. She has not seen the world, so she will automatically think that the world is that way [when it is not]. So if you keep telling somebody that you can't speak your mind, you can't do this, you can't do that... that's what girls start to think is right," says the actor, adding that all she feels is pity for those who judge.
"When you're conditioned that way, it's very difficult to break it. I don't think they are wrong, I just feel sorry for them. I can't judge them," says Sonam.
