I have no disagreement with you regarding making them sing songs of various genres and ranges. This way we will get to know their true quality of voice.
I correct myself if i got the wrong impression from your posts that you are dismissing singers simply because their voice does not sound pleasant to your ears.
There are some successful singers out there whose voice does not sound pleasant to my ears, but their being successful itself proves that there may be equal or more nos of listeners for whom it is not irritating at least!!😊

In this case, I think only 5 mentors liked Sarika's voice and no one else. Asha Bhonsle had already eliminated her. When the public was given a chance to vote her back, they did not vote her back.

Liking/disliking on the basis of voice ? Let us go by Asha tai's own anecdote recalled on the very set of srgmp2007, "When me and Kishorda were about to sing for recording, the recording technicians took away the mic from us and said , Un dono ka voice itna bekaar hai, kisne un dono ko yaha bulaya ? Ush ke bad kishorda jake kaha pahucha aur aaj main aap logo ke samne yaha khadi hoon!"

Also many times majority may be wrong too !!
