DP tweet is for HNY promotion

There is nothing new in controversies before movie release. DPs tweet is part of HNY promotion to remain in news. And SRK will keep reminding people from his twitter account. TOI and Red chillies are involved in this together.

Is there still anyone who does not understand this.

But I mean...I've never understood how that works? I'm genuinely curious. Reading about how Deepika defends herself after TOI publishes a derogatory article about her 'boob-show' and then her (current) co-star supporting her for standing up for herself doesn't make me want to go watch Happy New Year or Finding Fanny.

It is good point. Actually market research has shown that we are attracted to bad and negative qualities automatically. That is why likes of rakhi sawant, sunny leone, salman khan and honey singh attract lot of attention. This generates curiosity and we remember which movies they are doing and when its releasing.
of course this does not work for everyone, but it works for lot of people. It especially works on dumb people who do not have much thinking power, which covers 90-95% IF users. Reading form your post, it seems u are not in that category.
