Bipasha Basu was once considered hot property in Bollywood. Films like RAAZ, JISM, and NO ENTRY gained her popularity amongst males who considered her to be sexy. She's often been called "The black beauty".
More recently in 2012, Bipasha Basu had a huge box office success to her credit: RAAZ 3, a film where she had a very important role in the film.
Unfortunately, she was not able to capitalize on the success of RAAZ 3. AATMA bombed at the box office, and although HUMSHAKALS didn't perform so badly at the box office, she gave controversial statements about the film (pre-release) and basically dis-owned the film. HUMSHAKALS had huge negativity as many people gave the film a thumbs down after seeing the film.
Truth be told, there is not much to talk about CREATURE. The film doesn't have much buzz, and honestly, why would it? The theatrical trailer itself was hard enough to sit through! The theatrical trailer has received negative feedback from people who have seen the trailer.
CREATURE does mark the return of Director-Actress duo Vikram Bhatt-Bipasha Basu after huge hits like RAAZ and RAAZ 3D. But Vikram Bhatt can't save this film from sinking, as he himself has a had very mixed bag of a run as a director. Evidence of this is the fact in the year 2012, he delivered one huge hit (RAAZ 3) and in the same year he delivered one huge disaster (DANGEROUS ISHQ).
CREATURE marks the Bollywood debut of Pakistani model turned actor Imran Abbas Naqvi.
The film will have poor opening day collections, although the film will take a better opening than FINDING FANNY in mass areas. Masses do like the horror genre and they have embraced Bipasha Basu in the past due to her mass-appealing hit films where she has had skin-show on display. This time though, it doesn't seem like it will be Bipasha who will be displaying her skin and doing intimate scenes, but rather it will be Surveen Chawla who will be doing some hot passionate scenes with Rajneesh Duggal (a model who was the winner of the Grasim Mr India title in 2003 and runner up in
Mr. International).
The sex/horror/3D elements can bring in some mass audience, and encouraging WOM from the mass audience who see the film and like the elements will further bring in some more mass audience as well, but honestly the amount of audience coming will still be low, especially given the fact that urban/multiplex audience won't even bother to see this film. The multiplex audience brings in a huge chunk of collections, and when this audience isn't on board to see the film, then the film (which is low on buzz anyway and will attract small section of the audience only from the smaller areas where ticket rates are lower) loses chances of working at the box office.
My Box Office Predictions for CREATURE:
Opening Day: 1.75 crores
Opening Weekend: 5.50 crores
Lifetime Collections: 10 crores
Overall Box Office Verdict: Disaster
My advice for Bipasha Basu would be to stop doing these horror films like CREATURE and AATMA and do a film that has bigger box office potential with some big stars. A film like NO ENTRY MEIN ENTRY (which stars Salman Khan), where she can have an important role and also display skin show (like how she did in NO ENTRY), will be a step in the right direction for her to grow her fan-base and to gain box office success.
