For those of you who have seen the movie:

Was the relationship between Mahabir and Veera platonic?
Do you think Mahabir's mother was still alive?

I have seen it but I didn't understand this except for the Toffe/ Chocolate part...It was like a 2 hours ad for Kashmir tourism.

Easily Imtiaz's worst movie!!

Yes and no..
Breaking the stereotype Veera found Mahaveer to b this pure at heart guy evn though he is shown to b this this gunda mawali..compared to her fake shallow well dressed/spoken sheherwalas..so mostly its platonic..as thy both feel.a certain connect and sympathy for.each other

But bits like where she flirts wid Mahaveer..then tht bit where Mahaveer saves her from the goon who tries to touch her and then tells her to dress up proprrly..also the bit where she wees and he turns his face to the other side and afterwards when she walks latak matak ke😆 Mahaveer looking away hints a not so platonic relationship...and also don thy almost live 2gather in a house and Mahaveer asks her toh kya bachche palegi.mere...

I personally thought it ws a bit weird and wish thy put some1 more younger in Randeeps bcs if u look at the telly soap made my Imtiaz as well..the guy and the girl.look same age and thy hv chemistry..

I don't think you can fully put into any category Mahabir and Veera's relationship.
He kidnaps her, wants to sell her, yet he looks out for her. She mothers him and sings the lullaby his mother sings to him and obviously likes, trusts and is free to be totally herself with him, her kidnapper which she has never had before. All this in the background of Stockhome syndrome. But who has it ? Veera yes, but could Mahabir have it too ?

What is clear is there is a connection despite their background. They give each other comfort, empathy, affection, protection, acceptance. All these are qualities in a romantic relationship. These can also be qualities in a parent child and friends. Their relationship is complex, evolving and in the end his death sets Alia free. That is the tragedy to me. If Mahabir had been alive could they have had a romantic relationship ? Possibly IMO.

As for his mother being alive, doesn't Veera ask Mahabir to go look for her ? The reality though is she could have died.

I may have been hallucinating, but I thought there was a brief shot of his mother working at Veera's factory. I guess I'll just have to watch it again! 😉

I will be the first to admit Hooda and Alia don't exactly scream romance and chemistry to me. TBVH, it was a bit on the Ewww side for me because Alia looked young and Hooda older than his age. It had faint Lolitaesque vibes which added complexity to the appropriateness of their relationship.

This is no movie like the Jackie Shroff/Meenakshi Sheshadri Hero where it is a clear us against the world and they are matched in looks and age and you are rooting for them to be together. If you are rooting for Veera and Mahabir in any way, you are doing it despite your reservations, not because of any awww feeling, more despite a ewww feeling.

IDK if it is by accident or design, but if I guess Imitiaz it was by design and the brilliance of casting. This relationship is incompatible and incomprehensible because of age, background, kidnapping, experience level and so on. But despite all, you find yourself rooting for them in the end and cry when Mahabir dies because there is no possibility now even if you were not sure there was much romance there and the thought made you squeamish.

I did see some hints of romance like the bus station scene or when they are on top of the bus and he throws his blanket around her or the end when she is crying out his name. But then there is that scene where she says there is no plans for marriage or kids.

@ Bold the mother/father protective angle was more obvious than the romance, Whatever their relationship was it was a complex one, and I guess you are right we can't put it one category. What I loved the most tho was how Imtiaz leaves it to the audience to decide.

@HZAnita Lol I think thats just you, wouldn't she be older than that? We've only see the flashbacks of when Mahabir was young so if you say he's at least in his late 30s, she would've been older. Anyways I got the feeling that she was no more, when she first asks him about her whereabouts, the look he gives her says it all.

Alia's character had this incident that bothered her..the molestation or rape that a family friend did to her when she was little..basically this whole kidnapping thing helped her deal with this and have the courage to defend herself to the man who did this to her..

the movie had confusing parts..there were parts where I thought Alia was pretending to like Randeep as it happened suddenly..the transition of being scared to being in love was sudden...

but I have to say, while watching Randeep and Alia go to that small house in the mountains, all I could think was, "DONT SLEEP WITH HIM, ALIA!" 😆

I confess. I found the movie so boring I just couldn't keep up with the story. I don't even know what happened in the middle parts. I only concentrated the starting and the ending.
Secondly, I could not understand half of that Haryanvi.
When they do such movies, they should strictly time restrict say for 90 minutes only.
