I am not really a fan of Vidya Balan. Only two movies I had watched before was not at all impressive. So, although it is a 2012 movie, I watched it only today. Its a 'wow' movie.

A couple of days back we are arguing why the makers fail to portray Bengali culture properly in Tv seriies to which someone had replied that cultures are mere backdrops and the story is the real hero. For every one who believe in this idealogy, Kahani is a must watch. It potrays Kolkata in its real flavour that too without losing the grip of the story even for a minute.

As for the revenge track, it is simply awesome. Too many characters and shades the story has but each character even the minute ones like Bishnu or Poltu get their share of screen space. The protagonist Mrs. Bagchi played by Vidya Balan holds her emotions so tight that even for a fraction of second we don't doubt her. We doubt everyone else, even her husband who is missing.

Talking of women empowerment, Kahani is a great example. women are not becharis , crying like small babies all the time. They are head strong souls who can actually change the world. The way Vidya confronts IB officer Khan, " Aap mujhe nahi jante aur main aapko nahi janti, isliye mujhe kya karna hai ye aap nahi bata sakte. Aap muft me advice nahi dete, acchi baat hai. Dene bhi nahi chahiye."

As a thriller, Kahani cannot be missed even for a second. You miss it for a second and you miss an important part of the story. No fillers, no rona dhona, no emotional chit chat, no bekar ka gana no dhinchak nachna but just the thrilling story. This proves useless dragging is not required. You can do without it.

Overall, a must watch movie for those who love thrillers but I think I am the last one to watch it😆

P.S: Not comparing EHT with this movie. Its just that most of the series are inspired from the movies. All I am saying that take the inspiration from the right place.

Agree Debby "Kahani" is a great movie. And Vidya Balan is terrific in it.

I have watched that movie three times and each time I see something different I missed before.

Another movie of Vidya Balan I love is " Parineeta ". That was her first movie with Saif Ali Khan.

I agree. Kahani movie encourages women empowerment. Especially when a pregnant lady is wandering here and there in search of her hubby.
For me the "wow" factor was the scene where she shows that she's not pregnant. She really surprised me.

Really, so many characters and each of them crafted with special care. So many twists and turns and each given equal importance. Another good thing is the character of Rana. We know Rana admires Vidya and her courage to go against the system but it was never shown in any vulgar way or it was never given more importance than the original plot. Revenge was the aim and it remained till the end.

Kahani is gripping and brilliant. Not a single wasteful moment such a taut narrative it has.
But TV will never reach that quality especially on Star flush channel.

You could have expected taut plot on TV in 80s or 90s. Not now since Kekta mai ruined it.
