Anandi and Shiv had tea and snacks in the gazebo. Anandi did not say a word to Shiv. He could not bear her silence. He had to make her talk and then he would make her smile. Anandi went to the kitchen with the empty tea cups and snack plates. Shiv went to the room. After finishing up in the kitchen Anandi came to the room. Her eyes fell on a beautifully gift wrapped packet. She picked it up, it was for her and Shiv's handwriting on it told her so. She looked around for him. He was sitting on the couch.

Anandi: Ye kya hai?

Shiv: Gift hai.

Anandi: Rishwat de rahe hain mujhe?

Shiv: Arre yaar tum mere har effort ko rishwat kyun bolti ho? Gift hai iss mein bhi tumhe kud kud karni hai... Biwiyon ka samajh mein nahi aata gift do toh problem na do toh problem... Hum bechaare pati kare toh kya kare... Gift hai tumhaare liye hai open it simple...

Anandi was confused over Shiv gifting a remote. Shiv got up from the couch and came to Anandi.

Shiv: Anandi main keh raha tha ki come on, let's make peace. Aaj ke din TV tumhaara tum jo serial dekhna chaho main kuch nahi boloonga. I swear aaj Sunday hai par main match nahi dekhoonga. I don't even want to know the score.

Anandi: Thank you par aaj koi serial nahi aayega... Aap match dekh lijiye.

Shiv did not take the remote. He wanted to see the match. He wanted to know the score but ek baar jo Shiv ne bol diya toh bol diya. He would not watch the match. He turned on the TV and was just beginning to see the news when Anandi came and snatched the remote from his hand.

Shiv: Anandi...

Anandi: Oh main toh bhool hi gayi thi Aaj mere favorite serial ka full week repeat telecast aane wala hai. Ye poora week maine miss kar diya tha...

Shiv smiled at Anandi's enthusiasm to watch her favorite television show. A smile did come to her face. He went to the study to get a book for him because he was sure Anandi would be busy for another 2 hours with her favorite show. It would be a nice change... a break for her from the revelations of the painful past. He came back with a book and saw Anandi was pissed off. She threw the remote and glared at him.

Shiv: Anandi kya hua?

Anandi: All men are alike...

She went out of the room and Shiv was confused.

Shiv: Kya ho gaya 2 minute mein ki Anandi ka mood change ho gaya... All men are alike... Maine kya kiya? How am I like other men? Kaunsa aadmi match ke din remote biwi ke haath mein deta hai... What the hell happened?

Shiv sat in front of the TV. He began to watch Anandi's favorite show. His confusion turned into a frown.

Shiv: What the hell is he doing? Jis ladki se pyar karta hai apne hi haathon se uss ladki ho kisi aur ko saup raha hai. He is getting her married to someone else. Loser!

Anandi walked into the room just as Shiv called the character her favorite actor played a loser. Why was the character a loser according to Shiv when he had done the same thing! OK so he must not have loved her but he too did it against Anandi's wish just like the character in the show.

Anandi: Suniye! Ye dresser ka mirror thoda adjust karna hai.

Shiv went and stood next to Anandi. Their image was seen in the mirror.

Anandi: Dikha?

Shiv: Kya?

Anandi: Wohi jo aapne KSG ke character ko kaha.

Shiv: KSG? Kaun KSG?

Anandi: Haw!!! Aapko pata nahi KSG kaun hai? Kiss duniya mein rehte hain aap? Karan Singh Grover! Mera favorite actor!

Shiv: Karan Singh Grover tumhara favorite actor? But tumhaara favorite actor toh Salmaan Khan hai na?

Anandi: Haan toh KSG small screen ka Salmaan Khan hai.

Shiv looked at the TV. He tried to find similarities between Karan Singh Grover and Salmaan Khan. He couldn't find any. Anandi realized that Shiv was trying to find similarities between Karan Singh Grover and Salmaan Khan but he couldn't find any. She smiled. She stood ion her toes and whispered in Shiv's ears.

Anandi: Aise nahi pata chalegi Karan Singh Grover and Salmaan Khan ke beech ki similarities. KSG shirt utaarega tab dekhna sab samajh mein aa jaayega.

Anandi smiled and Shiv was clearly annoyed with her mentioning seeing Salmaan and KSG's shirtless avatar. Anandi went and settled in front of the TV. Shiv was looking at her. Ye tera hero idhar hai." He saw that she cried when KSG cried. She smiled when KSG smiled. Shiv was feeling jealous of KSG. He was doing what Shiv wanted to. Meaning he did not want Anandi to cry he wanted to put a smile on her face which not Shiv but KSG managed to put. But on the other hand if you go to see Shiv put that smile on her face because he gave her the remote. Yeah he and not some shirtless hero was the reason that Anandi was smiling. Shiv went and sat next to Anandi. He saw tears come out of her eyes but there was a smile on her face. She put his finger on her cheek and the tear drop came on his finger.

Shiv: Ye aasoon kyun Anandi?

Anandi: Kuch nahi wo ye scene dekhkar kuch yaad aa gaya.

Shiv looked at the TV and saw that the hero (KSG) and the heroine (dressed in her bridal trousseau) of the serial were standing in front of the mirror just like Anandi and he were a little time ago. She had called him a loser who had made her marry another man just like the hero of the serial was about to. Anandi was crying because of this scene but why she already knew that he (the hero) was getting her (the heroine) married to someone else. He was confused so he asked her one more time.

Shiv: Anandi kya hua?

Anandi: Iss scene ko dekhkar aapko kuch yaad nahi aaya? Uss din jab waqt har pal mujhe apni barbaadi ki taraf le jaa raha tha... Shaadi ke din tab humaare beech bhi kuch aisa hi hua tha na...

Flashback.

Anandi was sitting in her room surrounded by the girls of her realtives. She was dressed in her bridal trousseau. They were all praising the red A line embroidered work velvet bridal lehenga choli.She looked very stylish in that attire. Her beauty was magnified tenfold in the alluring red velvet lehnga choli. They were all teasing her about her baraat arriving soon and then she would go away to her husband's home. She too wanted to go away to her husband's home, her husband who was also the father of her daughter. She still in her heart of hearts had a hope that Shiv would come and marry her. They heard the baraat arrive and went away to see it. Just as the girls said that Anandi's dulha had arrived Anandi saw a man near her door. She looked up and saw the shadow of a man standing there. He hid from her because he could not face her. Anandi sensed that it was him. He had come. Anandi got off the bed and went to the mirror. She looked beautiful to others but when she saw in the mirror she saw a wilting flower. There were tears of lost hope in her eyes but then a smile came to her face when she heard the chun chun and saw tiny feet with anklets walking in to her room. She turned around and saw Saumyaa. Her 13 months daughter Saumyaa was dressed in a party frock.

Anandi: Saumyaa!!! Aaja ma ke paas aa...

Saumyaa walked towards Anandi and she picked her up. Anandi peppered her face with kisses. She looked at the party frock her daughter was wearing for a wedding.

Anandi: Saumyaa ye frock papa ne pehenaya?

Saumyaa nodded her head. Just then Shiv walked in. Anandi looked at him and all the hope she had lost came back to her. Anandi put Saumyaa on the bed and she went to her cupboard. She removed a gorgeous red and yellow lehenga choli for kids with exquisite hand work all over using stones, kundan, zari, beads and sequins. The dupatta is orange chiffon with little zari and bead bootis all over. Anandi dressed Saumyaa in the lehenga choli and made her wear the matching jewelry she had bought. Saumyaa wanted to see herself in the mirror. Anandi took Saumyaa to the mirror and Shiv was standing just behind them. He did not say a word... He did not want to interrupt the last mother daughter moment Anandi and Saumyaa would have. Saumyaa ran out of the room. Anandi and Shiv called her name but she did stop. Anandi looked in the mirror and she saw Shiv's image with hers. A smile came to her lips and her face lit up, her eyes were glistening with joyous tears. Shiv did not understand what happened to her...

Flashback ends.

Shiv: Haan Anandi tumne zikra kiya toh mujhe yaad aaya uss din... Main samajh nahi paya ki achanak tumhaare andar itni khsuhi kyun aa gayi tum aise khil uhti thi jaise tumhe koi anmol khushi mil gayi thi...

Anandi: Kyunki maine humaari image mirror mein dekhi thi... Uss din jab maine humaari image ek saath mirror mein dekhi toh mujhe aisa laga jaise...

Shiv: Jaise?

Anandi: Aapko pata hai jab bhi kisi serial mein shaadi ke din koi ladka ladki, jismein se kisi ek ki shaadi kisi aur se ho rahi ho, mirror ke saamne ek saath aa jaaye toh koi na koi twist aa jaata hai aur usi din usi muhurat mein unn dono ki shaadi ho jaati hai... Uss din shaadi ke din jab hum dono mirror ke saamne aaye toh mujhe laga ki jaise serial mein twist aata hai waise humaari life mein koi twist aayega aur humaari shaadi ho jaayegi... Hum bhi kitne pagal hote hain na aakhir moment tak ummeed nahi chodte...

Shiv: Anandi ummeed karna pagalpan nahi hota balki naummeedi gunaah hai... Shayad uss din wo nahi hua kyunki tab wo humaari kismet mein nahi tha... Tab waqt nahi tha humaare milne ka...

Anandi: I hope jo mauka humein nahi mila wo inn dono ko mil jaaye... I hope inn dono ki life mein koi twist aa jaaye aur ye dono ek ho jaaye...

Shiv: Me too...

Anandi and Shiv saw the episodes and nothing they hoped happened. Anandi closed her eyes and said a prayer that the heroine of the serial did not have the same fate as she did. A tear trickled out of her closed lids. Shiv took that tear drop on his finger and Anandi opened her eyes. They looked into each others eyes and knew that it was time to go down the most painful memory lane of Anandi's past, the day she married Jagdeesh and the nightmare that followed.

Anandi looked at Shiv. He switched off the TV and took her to the bed. He sat facing her. He took her hand in his and gave her a go ahead assuring smile.

Anandi: Uss din meri shaadi shuda zindagi ki shuruaat nahi balki meri barbaadi ki shuruaat hui thi... Mujhe aaj tak ye samnajh nahi aata ki usne aisa kyun kiya? Agar use mujhe tadpana hi tha toh mujhse shaadi kyun ki ... Main kya bigada tha uska ki wo mujhe dard dena chahta tha... Aur kyun wo...

Shiv: Kyun wo... kya Anandi?

Anandi: Nahi pata wo baar baar mujhse hum dono ko lekar itni cheap baatein karta tha... Aur ye toh shaadi ke din se hi shuru ho gaya tha...

Flashback.

On the wedding day in her bedroom Anandi saw Shiv's image with hers in the mirror. A smile came to her lips and her face lit up, her eyes were glistening with joyous tears. She thought that like in television serials when a man and woman's image is seen in the mirror on the either's wedding day, a twist comes and the two get married, she too would get married to Shiv. Shiv did not understand her feelings. He did not know that she still had a hope in her.

Shiv: Anandi ye chudiyaan Ashima ne tumhaare liye li thi... Wo chahti thi ki tum inhe apni shaadi ke din peheno...

Anandi put her hands in front of Shiv and asked him to make her wear the bangles. Shiv made her wear them. They were lost in each other and did not see or feel a monster lurking in the shadows.

Shiv: Anandi main chahta hoon ki tum humesha khush raho... Tumhaari khushi ke liye main kuch bhi kar sakta hoon...

Anandi: Kya aapko lagta hai ki main khush rahoongi Jagdeesh ke saath? Mere dil mein kya hai ye jaan ne ke baad bhi aapko lagta hai ki main aapke alwaava kisi aur ke saath khush reh paoongi?

Shiv: Agar dil se koshish karogi toh zaroor khush rahogi aur tumhe ye koshish karni hogi Anandi... Sab ke liye mere liye... Anandi apne dil aur dimaag se pichla ek saal mita do... Bhool jaao sab kuch...

Anandi: Kya aap bhool payenge?

Shiv wiped Anandi's tears... She could not control herself and she hugged Shiv. Shiv too hugged her back. He broke the hug when he heard the girls coming up to Anandi's room but Anandi could not let go to him. He had to force her hands off of him. Shiv went out of the room before anyone could see them together. Anandi knew that they had their chance but Shiv gave it up. She had no choice but to marry Jagdeesh.

Anandi was brought down to the hall where the mandap for the wedding was set. She looked at Shiv who was trying to control Saumyaa as she wanted to go to her ma. Anandi began walking towards Shiv and Saumyaa as Saumyaa kept on crying for her ma. Bhago stepped in her way and took her to the mandap. Anandi robotically performed every ritual and she and Jagdeesh got married.

It was time for her bidaai and she was nowhere to be found. Everyone was searching for her. Anandi was with Shiv and Saumyaa. She had requested Shiv to meet her one last time so that they could make some memories with Saumyaa. They spent on 5 minutes together but those memories were enough for a life time.

Bhago: Anandi kahaan thi tu hum sab tujhe dhoondh rahe the...

Anandi did not have an answer but Shiv and Saumyaa coming just a few minutes after her answered Bhago's question nad also Jagdeesh noticed it. Anandi and Jagdeesh did the final bidaai rituals and they were made to sit in a decorated car. In the car Jagdeesh put his hand around her shoulder.

Anandi: Jageesh kya kar rahe ho?

Jagdeesh: Kya kar raha hoon? Sirf haath rakha hai, haq hai mera ye karne ka aur uss se kahin zyaada. Ye toh bas shuruaat hai raat toh abhi baaki hai.

Anandi was scared of Jagdeesh and his intentions. She decided to speak with him and ask for sometime. At Jagdeesh's home after the prost wedding rituals Anandi was in Jagdeesh's room. Jagdeesh came in very late. He came and saw that Anandi had chaged out of her wedding trousseau. He came and hugged Anandi from the back which startled her.

Jagdeesh: Kya hua darr kyun gayi? Main hoon iss liye? Mujhe nahi kisi aur ko aana chahiye tha tumhaare paas? Tum kaho toh main chala jaata hoon aur Shiv ko bhej deta hoon... Jo tumhaare kamre mein tum dono ne shuru kiya tha use yahaan iss kamre mein iss bed par khatam kar do...

Anandi: Jagdeesh!

Jagdeesh: Arre Anandi tum aise kyun react kar rahi ho? Dekho na tumne apna shaadi ka joda bhi utaar diya... Mujhe jee bhar ke tumhe dekhne bhi nahi diya... Oh haan Shiv ne to jee jaan jism bharke tumhe dekh liya tha... Ye joda usi ke liye toh pehena tha hai na?

Anandi: Jagdeesh, tum tini giri hui baatein kaise kar sakte ho wo bhi apni patni se...

Jagdeesh: Tum meri patni toh aaj bani ho par Shiv ke saath patni dharm toh pichle ek saal se nibha rahi ho na?

Anandi could not believe that the man who her parents' entrusted her to was like this. She felt like she was in hell. Anandi went and wore her bridal trousseau so that she could shut Jagdeesh's mouth. She had never imagined Jagdeesh would ever say the things which he said next. Jagdeesh came close to her but she moved back.

Anandi: Jagdeesh main jaanti hoon ki humaari shaadi ho chuki hai par kya tum mujhe thoda waqt de sakte ho tumhe iss tarah apnane ke liye.

Jagdeesh grabbed her and slammed her on the bed. Anandi was very scared but she could not scream for help as Jagdeesh had covered her mouth. He went closer to her ear and whicpered.

Jagdeesh: Shiv ko bhi pehli baar yehi kaha tha ya khushi khushi uske bistar par uske saath uske liye bichh gayi thi... Har raat Shiv ke saath enjoy karti thi ya kabhi use bhi tadpaya hai ye kehkar ki aaj nahi kal...

Anandi's mind and body became numb as the words coming out of Jagdeesh's mouth poured in her ear like acid. She lay there limp body while Jagdeesh had non-consensual sex with her. She did not know when he started, what he did and when he ended. She just blocked it all out of her mind. Jagdeesh went to sleep and she went to the washroom to clean herself up. The water from the shower washed off every secretion Jagdeesh left on her body. She did not react to the marital r***. She felt nothing. She did not feel the pain in her body or on her soul. She got dressed and went to sleep on the couch.

In the morning she was normal as if last night nothing had happened and whatever that might have had happened did not affect her. She did not feel anything. Jagdeesh smiled as if he had won a trophy. He came close to her and whispered in her ears.

Jagdeesh: Tumne mujhe bataya kyun nahi ki tumaare aur Shiv ke beech kuch bhi nahi hua tha...

Anandi looked at the blood stains on the sheets. The events of last night came flooding back to her but she did not react. She took them and put them for washing. She did not react to Jagdeesh. He was poking and prodding to know how she felt after last night. He wanted to know if he caused her pain. She did not say anything. Jagdeesh got angry as he was not getting the results that he wanted. Jagdeesh gave her a new phone and left for the day. In the evening Jagdeesh was very happy when he returned. He expected to hear some good news.

Jagdeesh: So Anandi aaj kya kya kiya? Kiss kiss se baat ki? Apne maayke phone kiya tha? Buaji ke ghar? Chittod? Shiv se baat ki kya kaha usne?

Anandi: Maine kisi se koi baat nahi ki. Mujhe kisi ke sath kuch share nahi karna.

Jagdeesh got extremely angry and left from there. That night Jagdeesh came to the room and told her to undress. He thought he would cause pain to her by telling her to undress herself in front of the man who raped her the previous night. She was about to undress just like he told her to but he stopped her. He pushed her on the bed and she did not protest. He got on top of her and she did not push him away. He came closer to her but she did not react when he tried to grope her and kiss her. She did not push him away. She did not feel any pain so he left her there on the bed.

Flashback ends.

Anandi looked at Shiv and he had turned to stone. He could not move, he could not react... Anandi shook him and brought him back to her. He looked at her with tears in his eyes.

Shiv: I am sorry Anandi... I am sorry...

Anandi: Nahi aap sorry kyun keh rahe hain? Ye uski karni thi... Wo shaadi ki pehli raat usne jo kiya uske baad usne mujhe kabhi nahi touch nahi kyunki wo jaanta tha ki mujhe koi fark nahi pad raha tha... Mujhe dard nahi hota agar wo dinbhar mera sharirik aur maansik shoshan karta... Uska koi asar nahi tha mujhpar... Ek baat bahut weird thi uskle baare mein... Wo jab bhi mere saath hota mujhe torture karta apni baaton se... Phir chala jaata... Jab lautta toh bas yehi poochta ki maine aapko bataya ya nahi... Use aapka reaction jaan na tha... Jab main kehti ki maine aapko kuch nahi bataya toh wo gussa ho jaata...

Shiv could not believe what Anandi just said... He felt like puking... He ran to the washroom and puked. Anandi followed him there. Shiv was splashing water on his face. Anandi stopped him. Shiv was feeling like his insides were on fire. He turned on the shower and stood under it.

Anandi: Ye kya kar rahe hain aap? Aap beemar ho jaayegne...

Anandi tried to get Shiv out from under the shower but she could not. When you can't stop someone from doing something you should join them in it. Anandi too got under the shower and Shiv slowly sat down in the shower area. Anandi could differentiate between the water drops and Shiv's tears. They sat there. Anandi cupped his face and Shiv held her hands close to his heart.

Shiv: Anandi ye sab meri wajah se hua... No not because I turned away fom you but tumne kaha na tumhe nahi pata wo aisa kyun hai... Anandi wo bachapn se hi aisa hai... Mere dukh mein use khushi milti hai... Wo bachpan se mujhe dard dena chahta tha... Jab hum school mein the toh usne mera science project tod diya taaki mujhe fail kar diya jaaye... Anandi wo bachpan se hi mujhe apna dushman manta hai... Wo humesha se mujhe dard dena chahta hai... He hated me always... Maine kaise soch liya ki wo tumhe khush rakhega jab ki wo jaanta tha ki ... Wo tumhe torture kar raha tha kyunki wo jaanta tha ki wo chot tumhe dega toh dard mujhe hoga... Meri wajah se... Anandi bachpan se hi use aadat hai meri har cheez ko mujhse chheen lena ya jo toh uss cheez ko tod dena... Mujhe dard dene ke liye mujhe todne ke liye...Tumhe...

Shiv cried like a small child. Anandi hugged him. She made him face him.

Anandi: Wo mujhe nahi tod saka pata hai kyun kyunki uska koi asar nahi tha mujhpar. Shaadi ki uss ek raat usne jo kiya wo kiya uske baad wo kabhi mere kareeb nahi aaya kyunki wo jaanta tha ki mujhe koi asar nahi ho raha aur ek do dino ke baad to usne mujhe baaton se torture karna bhi band kar diya kyunki wo jaanta tah ki mujhe koi fark nahi pad raha aur na hi main aapko kuch batakar aapko dard de rahi hoon. Ek hafte mein toh wo Delhi chala gaya tha aur... Dedh mahine mein toh humaara divorce ho gaya kyunki uska aur Gauri ka sach mere saamne aa gaya tha... Aapki wajah se kuch nahi hua hai...

Anandi turned the shower off and got Shiv out of the washroom. She towel dried Shiv's hair and gave him clothes to change. When she came out of the washroom after changing she saw Shiv on the bed. She came and sat next to him. She ran her fingers through his hair.

Anandi: Abhi bhi wohi sab soch rahe hain? Maine kaha na aapki koi galti nahi thi... Aapko neecha dikhane ke liye use neecha girne ki zaroorat nahi thi wo aapse zyaada upar uth sakta tha but usne galat raasta chuna... Wo uske karam the... Uski soch thi... Bas ab hum uske baare mein na sochenge aur na kabhi baat karenge... Na uska humse aur na humara uss se koi lena dena hai... Aap thodi der rest kijiye main humaare liye kuch dinner ka dekhti hoon. Ma ka phone aaya tha sab bahar se hi dinner karke aayenge.

Anandi was leaving but Shiv caught her wrist.

Shiv: Dinner nahi karna hai... yahin mere paas ruko na...

Shiv lied down and Anandi lied down next to him. She slowly slowly shifted her upper half on him. He had his arms protectively wrapped around her. They went to sleep in that position. An hour later Shiv opened his eyes. Saumyaa and Soumya were sitting there with their chin resting on their hands. Saumyaa was about to speak but Shiv signed her to whisper.

Saumyaa: Papa mumma now kyun soyi soyi kar rahi hai? Mumma not feeling well?

Shiv: Nahi ab mumma is feeling ekdum well. Bas mumma thodi tired hai so she is sleeping.

Soumya: Papa hum mumma ho kisshi de then she will become ekdum ekdum well.

Shiv: Ok toh kal se match ka new series shuru ho raha hai toh room ke TV ka remote mujhe chahiye.

Anandi and Shiv smiled at eachother. They both quietly got off the bed and went to the kitchen. They were both feeling hungry. Anandi and Shiv made 2 mintues Maggie noodles. They enjoyed a quiet candle lit Maggie noodle dinner date. It was a perfect and beautiful ending to a tormenting day.
