It seems Baisas that this show might be returning to its roots, after all.
And Shantanu might very well be a parallel LEAD/ Anti-Hero, and not just a run-of-the-mill villain. If he is what I think he is in terms of background--in the end, he might have as strong a motive to fight terrorism and help Rudra as anyone could. Shantanu can ultimately be an important resource in Rudra's fight against the Thakur-- as an ally, and not an antagonist. For that to happen, please consider Shantanu's character, as I see him---
Army men have certain ways of subtly knowing each other--- the way they talk, the kind of training they have. Its very distinctive for them, Rudra /Aman/Kakusa/B.K Singh are all aware of the threat, obviously, but more importantly, they are not going to accept some random dude wearing a uniform as the original man. They have pictures and records and the ability to use them.
So its hardly possible that Shantanu will NOT be a real BSD-walo--and we should actually already know he is a real army man---- he was spying on Rudra and Paro via webcam while IN A BSD office. We assumed it was Rudra's---but there was nothing showing that to us. Why couldn't it have been his own BSD office? Plus--And I cannot stress this enough---the guy has ridiculous dimples, NOT the Thakur's smarmy, slick villain kind. The hot, good guy kind. (Yes, dimples have different classifications-- I married a particularly fine pair).
I am finding it hard looking at Shantanu and thinking "psychotic revenge-killer." I find it easier to think-- "hot army man unbalanced by grief, planning things out of rage that he will regret once he knows the truth." And his focus on Paro--- he is not having "Mhari Pyari Bhabi-sa" type thoughts to begin with. The transition to obsessive love will be easy. And once he lives in the Haveli with Paro, without Rudra growling at him from behind every pillar-- he WILL learn about Paro's nature. Once he has actually spent time with her---He WILL fall for her--and this will of course, be one sided. Paro might not even realize it, but Rudra totally will.
He has the short hair of the army man. He was stationed in Jammu Kashmir, far away from Rajasthan's border issues. And his military record is impressive enough for V K Singh to compare him to Rudra. None of this makes him proper villain on paper. And the parallel to Jallad Rudra-- operating out of a totally misplaced belief in Paro's crime, not to mention his desire to break Paro --those are telling. And his training, his junoon--its very reminiscent of the Jallad.
And as for the terrorism thing-- Why cant this guy be---well, innocent? If his older brother was a terrorist, it does not follow that Shantanu was one, too. Arms smuggling is not exactly a family business. In fact, having a gullible younger brother in the army who worships his bhaiya would have been a huge advantage for Varun. If Shantanu found out, while stationed far away, that his brother got "killed" in a fake encounter, and then the guy doing the killing married Varun's widow within weeks of the death---well, it would look like Parud was a vicious couple who murdered Varun and accused him of being a terrorist to cover up. For an army man--it would be the "kalank" of being called a terrorist that is not letting Varum's aatma rest in peace.
I went back to his intro scene. He says--"I will send your widow to you Bhaiya, so you can decide what punishment to give her for betraying you" --ummm if Shantanu knew the widow was on her way to being raped and trafficked, I don't see how even a terrorist could hold it against Paro for getting rescued. His attitude so far has been--my brother was tricked, and the woman he married and the man who killed him CHEATED him. Unless he does not know about Varun's real actions--- he cannot logically think this.
And that does not make for a gripping love story. After consummation-- Parud falls flat (and the show is just seven months old). I think we wont be given a parallel romantic hero track here, with a jealous Rudra and a misunderstood Paro. Paro wont LET herself be misunderstood. What we can have is what Major Saab does best--destroying , doubting and hurting HIMSELF--because Shantanu is the mirror image of him, Rudra.
Only a viable alternative to Rudra--- one he himself is challenged by--- can introduce conflict. If Paro now has TWO "Rakshaks" instead of one--if another man shows up, realizes he was wrong about her, and devotes HIS life to her protection--that takes away the ONLY thing RUDRA has to offer Paro. And he does not need to suspect her of cheating to cause tension. He just needs to suspect that HE is not worthy of the woman --and someone else might be better.
Any other ways Shantanu track can work for us, Baisas? Or are his dimples still too much for proper analysis quite yet? 😆
