RAM KAPOOR (the actor) grew up in the lap of luxury.
His father Ranjan Kapoor, a top advertising honcho, expected his son to take on a corporate career.
At boarding school in Sherwood College, he acted in an Aamir Raza Husain play and was hooked.
After school, he left to study method acting in Stanislavsky College of Acting in Los Angeles.
Rejected the first time, he waited a year, selling used cars and coffee at Starbucks, before getting admission.
Two years later, he was amongst eight of the 22 students who graduated from his class.
"Surviving method acting school was like surviving the US Marines boot camp of emotion," he says. (News Inputs: Creditor)
Iconic: Ram Kapoor For more than three years, Ram Kapoor has played the role of Ram Kapoor', a shrewd and intelligent businessman, in Sony TV's Bade Acche Lagte Hain',
He has set new standards as leading man and his popularity has shot through the roof. Unfortunately, Kapoor is quitting BALH and with his departure the serial is closing down and like it's countless fans, we too are quite heart-broken.
In an attempt of reliving the memories of this much-loved serial, we had written a segment on " 7 Reasons why we love Priya Ram Kapoor " Here's our next installment: 7 Reasons Why We Love Ram Kapoor
1. He is Rich: It's all in the Talent: Ram Kapoor Ram Kapoor is rich; super, duper, mind-bogglingly rich and we just can't get enough of his wealth: the wealth of this man's talent as an actor. Television serials are over- wrought with portrayals of rich businessmen with high morals in all shapes and sizes, but no one is as relatable as Ram Kapoor simply because he has kept it real. Ram Kapoor does not depend on dialogue-baazi or thunderous music (dhishing, dhishing, dhishkyaon); he abhors the cliched three- angle-gimmicks (kyun!kyun!kyun! ...kya! kya! kya! and so on) to put forth his point. His expressions and body language is good enough to scare the living daylights of his detractors. Ram Kapoor is also wealthy with the admiration and respect that everyone, including his enemies, bestow upon him. One may hate his guts & be jealous of his success, but one cannot ignore Ram Kapoor's greatness as a human-being. He has gone from being ultra-rich to middle class, but Ram Kapoor's rich integrity has never wavered. Principally, the man remains iconic as a character.
2. He is The Man: The most viewed episode on TV: Ram Kapoor breaks barriers. Mushy love stories? Maybe. Mushy Man? No. A resounding NO. Ram Kapoor is the first actor to take-on the challenge of bringing raw romance to the small screen and he has done it with such aplomb that it has become a milestone on Indian Television. Several actors have now gone his way and are trying to emulate him. Although some puritans have strongly objected to the depiction of love on small-screen, the romantic scenes of BALH continue to be among the most- watched episodes of TV history. And all credit goes to Ram & Priya's explosive chemistry. Ram Kapoor is romantic, but he is not mushy who wilts at the mere mention of romance. He has stood his ground and loved like a man. Even in the most passionate moments, he has not let tenderness overcome his core identity as The Ram Kapoor' the ultra- successful businessman who is used to getting what he wants. He is infinitely patient in love, but he is also persuasive in his quest without crossing the line or using his power to arm- wrestle his woman into submission. Ram Kapoor has been a giving man, an ardent lover, a loving father and a helpless victim at times, but in his myriad avatars Kapoor has let the man in him shine through; never letting his viewers question his stand.
3. He is Simple, Yet... "I can see right though you": Ram Kapoor conquers with a smile! Time and again, this shrewd, rich businessman has made us smile at his simplicity and innocence. He is uncomplicated in the matters of the heart and loves everyone unconditionally; be it his scheming step- mother or good- for-nothing step- brother, both of whom are finally conquered by Kapoor's all- encompassing love. Sound like a typical Hindi TV serial, does it not? But here comes the twist: Kapoor is hilariously sarcastic and quite intelligently so. He can see right through fake friends, greedy relatives and he does not suffer fools gladly. He is unapologetic about his sarcasm. and makes no bones when it comes to ridiculing below- par people to improve their quality. You can touch his heart through simplicity, like Priya Ram Kapoor did, but you cannot fool him.
4. He is Sexy: Sexy isn't just abs: Ultra-Hot Ram Kapoor Although the man disagrees that he is sexy, few women viewers would agree with Ram on this. This man is unbelievably sexy from his twinkling eyes, to his day-old stubble right down to his glazed boots. Ekta Kapoor had said on "Koffee With Karan" that the utility of men on television was for their drool worthiness and not much else. The vision of a drool-worthy, over-weight man over 40 had definitely not have crossed her mind then, but Ram Kapoor has changed that. He is an unique example of an actor who has made viewers rethink their perception of attractive men. Ram Kapoor believes in quality work and nothing else, and he has proved that quality alone can make you successful, not mere looks. Not only with viewers, Ram Kapoor has also erased the comfortable boundaries within which producers & directors thrived, forcing them to think out of the box when choosing lead actors. He has taken the road less travelled and carved out a path for actors like him who would otherwise be ignored by the pre-conceived notions of how a lead-actor should look like.
5. He is Uber- Intelligent: One of the Most Intelligent Actors: Ram Kapoor Prior to Kapoor, over weight actors were either shunned to Comedy Circus or to doing comic serials, forcing them to poke fun at themselves. Even Satish Shah couldn't break this mould in spite of his talents and it was just felt cruel! Then, along came a man, who simply rewrote the TV rule-book and did what he does best: act. Not do comedy, or make fun of himself, just act! Shah Rukh Khan had once said, "I turn my short- comings into opportunities." and Ram Kapoor is an instruction manual of how to do that. Instead of letting his weighty issues weigh him down, Kapoor turned it into an unique selling point. He was real' and easily relatable amongst the million 20- something young heroes with well- built muscles and 8-pack abs, but totally indistinguishable from each other!! And that is where the sheer intelligence of this man comes forth. Kapoor has high-recall as an actor. He's not just a face' among the many heroes that grace our TV screens. His skills make him unforgettable and while boys half his age are battling to get into cinema, he's already up there making history.
6. He is Irreplaceable: "Replace? Me? Are you serious, Ekta?" Ram Kapoor Ekta Kapoor, notorious for her replacement tactics via accident->plastic surgery->new lead, has finally met her match in Ram Kapoor. Despite Kapoor's busy schedule & inability to give time to #BALH, the producers of the show just didn't dare replace him simply because, there could be no other Ram good enough. They knew, with the replacement for Ram Kapoor, the show would meet its doom and would be rejected outright by its viewers and so BALH was built around the schedules of its irreplaceable protagonist. And we just love this man for his guts!! In the world of Hindi TV serials, where actors are used as disposable commodities, Ram Kapoor laid down his own rules and the world followed them. Other than Mr. Bachchan, we cannot recall any other actor have so much power on TV. (Even the ever-loved Tulsi' from Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi had gotten replaced!) Coco Chanel said "In order to be irreplaceable, one has to be different". Ram Kapoor may well be the man she was talking about!
7. He is The Brand': A Brand All By Himself: "The Ram Kapoor" The lines between the reel and real avatars of Ram Kapoor is blurred, much like Sakshi Tanwar's as Priya Ram Kapoor. Not only reel and real life Ram share the same name, they share quite similar characteristics. In real life too, Kapoor has a devil-may-care attitude. He doesn't care for haters; for him awards are meaningless as he reaches one milestone after another in his own merry way. Its a known fact that established TV actors find it difficult to get work in cinema, but that rule doesn't apply on Kapoor since he is doing meaty roles and working with top producers and directors in both commercial and parallel cinema. He has not let himself been typecast as a comedian or a villain or a father- figure; he has proved that he can take upon any role and turn it into a raging success. And Kapoor has never compromised on the quality of his work, much like the fictional Ram Kapoor. He has juggled television, cinema, family and endorsements with equal dexterity. Even in his latest flick Humshakal' which has been panned by many critics, Ram Kapoor has made a positive impact with his role as Kunwar Amar Nath Singh. Simply put, Ram Kapoor is a brand all by himself who can make any role relatable and worth watching. He is a dependable actor who cannot be type-cast and has the capability to justify every role he is entrusted with. He is as versatile as he is lovable and the brand Ram Kapoor' continues to amaze us with his talent each passing day. Although, with the closure of Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, we won't be able to see this wonderfully talented actor five days a week, we're sure to see him in several new ventures on the big screen. Here's wishing Mr. Kapoor lots of love, luck and success in all his future endeavors.
