Only a singer can judge a singer.There is a difference between a person who sings and the person who like good music. At this level of competition, you should be able to take for granted that the singers should have well-developed vocal techniques: that's all the basic things such as knowing the notes and being able to sing them, steadiness of pitch, tone quality, breath control and facility with language.This can be done by only a professional singer. In my opinion Sonu Nigam was the best judge ever.He used to tell the participant where he or she went wrong. Waise to saat hindustani ko bhi acche aur bure music ka gyan hai 😉 .

I feel it is okay for older singers to come on as judges as they have many years of singing and usually don't find the new talent a threat... i.e Lata mangeshkar etc...

However, not so old and current singers who would fnd new talent as a threat, i.e Alka yagnik, kumar sanu, Abhijeet, etc... should not be allowed to have the final say in who stays and who goes... music directors is a better choice... as the singers who are still on their way up or down in their career might feel threatened by fresh new talent and not let the good talent come up in the show...

When ID make this comment?? I have watched all the episodes and listened to his comments, perhaps I missed something. Sometimes a comment can be taken out of a context in which case it makes no sense or changes its meaning.

Established singers can certainly be good judges..... e.g. Kavita Krishnamurthy.😛

D successful singers r d experts,they know d technical aspects & r scholars of music...so y not???They will b d best to judge!

young singers will never make d rite comments for fear of disagreeing wid d oder mentors who're MDs...deir own bread and buter depends on it..plus, young singers demselves will have a lot to learn and a long way to go..Shreya Ghoshal herself is getting better wid each song she sings...
accomplished singers like Lata ji ar Asha Tai would make better judges..we ourselves saw Asha Tai as a judge, she was amazing! 👏
and ya, gr8 and accomplished singers can make good judges..just like MDs...
