Harshvardhan Rane is clearly in a great phase of his career. His latest film, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, directed by Milap Zaveri and co-starring Sonam Bajwa, has turned out to be a surprise hit. Despite a tough box office clash with Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna’s Thamma, the romantic drama managed to pull in strong numbers, matching its competitor’s performance by the end of its opening weekend. The success has only reinforced Harshvardhan’s belief that genuine audience love matters more than industry labels.

“Let’s Retire the Word Nepotism”

In a candid chat with Zoom, Harshvardhan addressed the long-standing debate around nepotism and made a bold appeal to move on from it. “The whole country should stop using this word now,” he said. “For years, we’ve been obsessed with blaming nepotism, but this year’s Diwali release proved something. Two films led by outsiders released together and both were loved equally. That shows how audiences don’t care about surnames anymore.”

He also added that the word has become an “excuse” for people afraid to take risks. “If you’re lazy or scared to try, you hide behind that word. Talent and effort are what matter today,” he said. His advice to aspiring actors was simple, don’t get caught up in the conversation. “If someone around you brings it up, just smile, excuse yourself, and walk away. The topic is outdated.”

A Positive Shift in the Industry

Harshvardhan’s perspective comes at a time when the conversation around insiders and outsiders in Bollywood is finally evolving. With Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat doing steady business and audience feedback pouring in from across India, the actor feels the industry is moving in a more merit-based direction.

Reports suggest that Harshvardhan has already signed Milap Zaveri’s next big project, though details are still under wraps. For now, he seems content celebrating a well-deserved victory, one built not on privilege, but persistence.

TL;DR

Harshvardhan Rane, riding high on Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’s success, opened up about nepotism and the industry’s changing mindset. Despite clashing with Thamma, his film performed equally well, proving, he said, that audiences value talent over surnames. Urging aspiring actors to stop using “nepotism” as an excuse, Harshvardhan called it an outdated conversation, celebrating merit and hard work instead.
