I mean I get it. Zaroon, for Kashaf symbolizes everything she was not allowed to have. Money, social status, luck, good looks, happiness, everything. But when Zaroon dropped her home tonight, the least she could do was manage a genuine thank you. For whatever reasons, the fact remains that Zaroon did help her in need. He did not have to. Yes, he has his sinister agenda, but he did deserve an acknowledgement from Kashaf tonight.
Which brings me to my question, why does Kashaf hate Zaroon so much? Why does she need to get into arguments with him? Is it merely an extension of her misandry and distrust of men in general, or is it person-specific? Like Zaroon, I too was wondering about the same. Does Kashaf dislike all men, or is her resentment specially reserved for Zaroon?
Would love a discussion on the same.

It's a mixture of both, I feel.

Zaroon as we all know, symbolizes all that Kashaf feels she can never attain or achieve. A privileged background, looks that grab every woman's attention & charm that floors them.

There is a self-consciousness & latent bitterness in Kashaf's attitude towards THEM, the rich, privileged class, that surfaces harshly whenever she interacts with Zaroon.

I completely understand the envy, jealousy & bitterness she feels, but I wish she wouldn't (beyond an extent) allow that to over-power her behaviour towards THEM. Her Us Vs. THEM attitude, is , on the whole, not justified.

Coming to her misandry, yes, she does have immense bitterness towards men in general, but can we blame her? She has only been bitterly & very, very harshly been let down by them.

With Zaroon, it's a mixture of her growing albeit passive attraction , which has a foundation of angry bitterness and, the fact that he is for her, the representative of the Privileged Class, the THEM.

When I see her sitting in that University class, it feels as if, she at once, wants to emerge & pale.

She wants to be known for her academic brilliance, her marks, yet, she wants to pale in front of these flitting, gorgeous, rich creatures, they, with their iridscent colours, and she with her pale beiges & sullied whites.

But if she wasn't the way she is, this show wouldn't be such a respite from the Jai Maata shows on Indian tv. 😆

P.S. I really like Kashaf, she is a great heroine, but I see what you're talking about, and since I saw a post by you, I couldn't stop myself from replying. 😳

You have already answered your question in the post. Its primarily because she fails to trust any man thanks to her troubled life and fails to connect with any of the member of opposite gender as she has only seen the bitterness and non acceptance from that side. She has very passionately nurtured a belief that men are nothing but cruel animals who use women as their pawns and treat women as dirt and throw them away. Thus genuine care, courtesy even simple gestures are taken by her as so grave and a move to disregard to women. Moreover Zaroon has all that she has craved for all along and most importantly he has a perfect life which kashaf so desperately wants. Its aggrevates her hatred for the man. Its not Zaroon what she is fighting but her inner demons , zaroon is just the appropriate manifestation of that. It will take her a long time to realise that all men are not heartless and as cruel as her father and they can be genuinely good people too. Murtaza has scarred kashaf perception pretty badly.

And I agree that this constant criticism of zaroon from her side is a self assurance for her that she is not getting affected by him which is so not true. He makes her jittery, concious and surely uncomfortable. She is not ready to accept that so easily so she camoflouge it with that bitterness and constant resistance that he is an arrogant man and should not be trusted. She has that pre conceived notions about other gender and Zaroon with his antic behaviour in university proving her right too.

Very nice discussion... couldn't stop from commenting 😊
Kasaf is a complicated character thanks to her complicated family background...I too think it's a mixture of all that you all have mentioned .. yes, this hatred, in a way, is justifying her claim that she is not affected...Sir Abrar is the first man whom she will come to trust and respect unconditionally...

but doesn't all these qualities make her so different from the typical female lead we usually come across... they both are little flawed real characters...
who actually exist in the real world... I have myself come across people who are ready to hold someone responsible for everything that goes wrong just because that person is rich aka priviledged.

Hey star_girl!..nice topic.
The night Kashaf threw a fit on the street had more to do with Zaroon being with her that night than anything else. Kashaf's perception of Zaroon is negative, regardless. The thing with Kashaf is that she has this facade of being this tough girl yet she's really vulnerable inside. She perhaps never stayed out too long for a concert that night..and then needs a ride home and the guy whom she despises, is the only person to offer her a ride. Furthermore, I'm sure she freaked out a little inside when she realized it was just going to be her and Zaroon all alone in one car going home to her place. She probably took it one notch higher and came up with crazy scenarios of what might happen with her being all alone in Zaroon's car..especially when Zaroon persistently insisted that she sit next to him, in the front. 😆 .So, it's a mixture of her not trusting men but also her not trusting Zaroon in particular.

If you guys noticed..there's a difference between how Kashaf reacts to Usama and how she reacts to Zaroon. They're both good looking, rich guys..yet their personalities are different. Zaroon's attitude just makes it worse for Kashaf..and that night I feel she just freaked out thinking she was going to be all alone, late at night..in a car with a womanizer. 😆 She felt vulnerable and then threw a fit to counteract it. Kashaf has this facade of being all tough, but she's not as tough as she makes herself seem.

To answer your question generally..Zaroon and Kashaf both have huge egos. They both find the need to tear each other apart whenever they can. They even have this academic competition going on because they're two of the smartest people in their class. The fact that Zaroon is a guy just makes Kashaf take it a notch higher. As I said earlier, if you've noticed..she's not the same with Usama..she's in fact, nicer to him...but, that's also because he's nice to her despite being from the same class as Zaroon and being a guy. Zaroon on the other hand gave her the wrong impression from day 1 and the fact that he's a guy just makes it worse. And now, she can't seem to trust him at all...she even doubts his intentions and doesn't easily fall for the things he does. It's as if he's the perfect example of proving her notions correct about guys and the "cocky" upper class. And like I said, they both have huge egos..they tend to get personal with each other in their own ways. If Kashaf tends to bluntly degrade Zaroon then Zaroon also is being sneaky in his approach in trying to grab Kashaf's attention. It's just that neither of them understand each other or why they are the way they are..which of course doesn't help.

Also, Kashaf is really, really complex..and unfortunately that's because of the household she has been brought up in. A lot of times she'll do things which may seem totally nonsensical and over the top..but most of the time..I saw it as a defense mechanism to prevent herself from getting hurt. It goes back to what I was saying..she has this facade of being strong and tough, yet she's afraid of being vulnerable and weak. Zaroon has the tendency of having everyone dance around him..girls going crazy for him and whatnot..but, Kashaf's ego doesn't want her to fall weak and be in someone else's command..and that too, of a guy from the upper class? Thus, she tends to use this defense mechanism against Zaroon..and it's because of all the reasons that we're discussing.

a lot of people responded and I agree most with starstrukk...today's reaction had a lot of things going on.
She does not like to be helpless, but she was.
She hates that Zaroon has everything she does not, things she would like to have. To top it off, he is very non-chalant about what he has since he takes it all for granted whereas she has to work hard in order to get whatever little they have. Worse of all, he even challenges the one thing that she prides in - her intelligence. He may not be as intelligent, but he is a close second. I would not be surprised if she accuses him of coming close to her in order to access her notes and study plans. She knows that the only way she will come up in life and better her sister and mother's life is by working hard at her studies and getting a very good job. Zaroon most likely makes her insecure with his know it all attitude.

Plus it does not help that she dislikes all men in general given how her uncle, father, brother all treat her family.

Switch in Zaroon's attitude has been sudden too.

Someone compared her treatment of Usama to Zaroon. Well Usama comes across as nicer, plus he apologized earlier on, and is not a general threat to her in the class or otherwise. He does not keep challenging/questioning her either.

And I do believe there might be some attraction involved and this is her way of fighting it.

oh and forgot to add the -"duniya kya kahegi" mentality of middle class people. Remember when she had started Univ. her mom made her promise not to do anything that will bring them shame, coz Izzat is all they have. I bet she does not wish to disappoint her mother, even if it by doing something as small as accepting a ride in excruciating circumstances.
