Model-turned-Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif is an accomplished painter as well.
She recently gave a portrait she painted of Mohandas K. Gandhi — who led India's freedom struggle against British colonialists in the 1900s — to Vipul Shah, the director of her latest movie, the Mumbai Mirror newspaper reported yesterday.
"I shot an entire film with her, but I never knew that she had this side to her," the daily quoted Shah as saying. "Katrina is naturally talented and the painting is quite beautiful." Shah directed Kaif in Namaste London in which she plays an Indian girl brought up in London, but forced by her father to marry an Indian farmer.
Kaif took several months to complete the 4-metre-tall painting of Gandhi, Shah said. "It is one of my most cherished gifts," he said. "She invested a lot of time to make this painting and I am delighted with her gift." Kaif, who has a British mother and an Indian father, worked as a model in London and India before she made her Bollywood debut in 2003.
