Two is company!

Sidharth Malhotra talks about doing two-hero films

Upala KBR

Sidharth Malhotra is the only actor of the current lot who is moving away from single-hero films and surprising everyone with his

choices. Whether it is with the characters he is playing or the fact that he is not afraid of being pitted against other actors.

In his next film Ek Villain, he is pitted against Riteish Deshmukh. And in Warrior, he is working with Akshay Kumar. His contemporaries like Arjun Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapur, Varun Dhawan, etc are still to sign films with senior actors. It says a lot about Sidharth's confidence that he's willing to take on such parts.

When quizzed if he doesn't feel insecure about taking up a two-hero project? He says, "Oddly no. I am doing films with other heroes as well as solo hero films. But it's not like I'm planning to balance it out. For me, the genre or the content in the script is more exciting. I go by the script and vision of my directors. Experimenting with different roles keeps it exciting for the audience and me. Working along with senior actors is a privilege as one gets to learn."

Sidharth adds there are various kinds of films being offered to him and he wants to try his hand at everything. "The only thing that I think of when I sign a role is whether it is different from the last role I played. There is so much new stuff to do that it doesn't really matter what anybody else is doing or who else is there. It's not like solo nahin hai' it's still an important protagonist, an important character, and that's what matters."

The only problem I see for a new star to work with a superstar like Akshay...that there is a risk of being overshadowed or the credit of the movie being given to the senior star...other than that I agree that it takes a lot of confidence to face a senior star ...

I like that he has no qualms about sharing screen time with another actor, unlike other people whose egos won't allow them to. Oh Sid you cutie
The only downside is that one can overshadow the other

At the risk of being overshadowed, he's open to being a part of films where he not only gets to perform and improve but hone his craft working with seniors. Good on ya mate! :)

Sidharth Malhotra On Why SRK, Salman, Aamir, Akshay, Ajay Not Retiring?'

June 17th, 2014 by Mohar Basu

If looks could kill, Sidharth Malhotra's totally would. The smoldering actor is soon going to start training the remake of Hollywood flick Warrior. Sidharth is in news for all the right reasons now as his next film Ek Villain is soon garnering interest and attention of audiences. However, his next projects are all undisclosed so far. The actor in a recent chat with Koimoi went candid about his upcoming films, especially Warrior. The actor told, "My next film is very exciting. It has an interesting script and surprisingly has a lot of scope for two characters to co-exist smoothly. It is about mixed martial arts and fighting. I will have to start training for it soon after Ek Villain releases, in a month's time."

Rumor mills had suggested that Akshay Kumar is being considered for the role opposite Sidharth. On being questioned, Sid complied only to add that it is all still in talks and nothing has been finalized so far.

Sidharth Malhotra

The Superstars of this era still continue to be Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn, who are all well in the later side of their 40s. On asking Sidharth on a humorous note whether he ever prays for the older guns to retire, the actor quipped, "The reason why they aren't retiring is because the audience still wants to see them. And that is in no one's control. The audience still hasn't found anyone more attractive than the older lot in question here. The seniors are as good as they were years ago. Audience never lies, if people are going and watching their films that means they are still as entertaining , have that charisma. It is a compliment to them that even in their late 40s, they can portray emotions with the same freshness and vulnerability. The other day at Dharma we were discussing the same. It's the only time in Bollywood that there are actors from 20s to 30s to 40s even 50s, 60s and 70s which filmmakers in the past never had. You can choose from any distinct generation and make any kind of film today. From a filmmaker point of view, that's great. And for actors too, there are different kind of content coming your way defying the staple moulds. I hope the older generation agrees to do film with younger actors, in a script that calls for a multi-star cast. I am hoping that the film I am in talks works out, it will then be great. Different generation actors can bring together unique content that is unseen so far."

Sidharth however was careful in emphasizing that Akshay still hasn't given his nod for the role. The film is the story of two brothers who have a face off in a boxing match. Sidharth is also in talks with Tarun Mansukhani and might get roped for Dharma's next film which is the remake of French movie Priceless.

For now, Sidharth's sole attention is Ek Villain and looks like the movie is bucking up to recreate for director Mohit Suri, the success of Aashiqui 2.

Sid is really putting his heart and soul out in everything he is doing I feel

I mean his IIFA act...I thought it will be a disaster given his dancing skills...But he did manage to make a mark even with his below average dancing...I was amazed to see the increase in his confidence levels while facing the crowd...He put in a lots of energy while onstage...also that impulsive move to go up to Pari and get her on stage for dancing..Seriously he has grown so much from the initial days of nervousness to face the crowd, shy to interact with audience etc...career wise he is taking some bold decisions...Hopefull he keep honing his acting skills in the process as well..hope the risks and hardwork pays off..Not everyone is born natural performer...hardwork and dedication helps u reach the zenith of success in any profession

From bulky warrior to lanky vigilante
Ankur Pathak (MUMBAI MIRROR; June 19, 2014)

Sidharth Malhotra is a worried man. He has less than a month to build up a boxer's physique for Karan Johar's remake of American sports drama Warrior.

"I reprise Tom Hardy's character, a boxer, in the Hindi version," informs the actor, adding that though it's an official remake, director Karan Malhotra has added Bollywood masala to the script. "It's become another film altogether, darker and more dramatic, much like Karan's treatment of his directorial debut Agneepath."

To gain muscle mass, Sidharth has started training in mixed martial arts, including kickboxing and wrestling. "Karan has told me that I need to look physically aggressive and put on weight. It's going to be a strenuous regime," he admits.

However, by the year-end he will have to shed it all, as he slips into character for Bhavesh Joshi. Mirror had previously reported that Vikramaditya Motwane's vigilante drama is running late because of Sidharth's commitments with Dharma Productions. The actor confirms that Warrior will start in July six months before Bhavesh Joshi.

While Motwane remains tightlipped about the details of his project, Sidharth confirms that the plan is to spin a franchise, depending on the response to the first film. When quizzed on whether he plays a Gujarati superhero, he quips, "No. Bhavesh Joshi is just a name. He is a regular, middle-class Mumbaikar who assumes another nocturnal identity and becomes a masked crusader out to protect the city, like Batman and Gotham. He doesn't have any superpowers, only skills."

So, is Sidharth a fan of the superhero genre? "I'm a superhero buff, I'm biased towards Spiderman," he says, admitting that it's a conscious decision to move away from romcoms. "A lot depends on how well Ek Villain does, if the film works, it will give me the confidence to take more risks," he concludes.
