Also I ain't really a fan of Deepika but she's a bit like Priyanka Chopra.

On one hand she can do the leggy sexy bimbo roles like Desi Boyz.

One the other hand roles that require more acting and less eye candy and looks.

Most of the newcomers can't do that. They either fit in one type of role but rarely both.

Therefore less offers in movies and over used.

Many things

1. First and foremost her Dedication and Hard Work. When she tries, she put her 110 percent and you can actually see that. She is ambitious. She wants to prove herself. She wants to take new challenges and that's something which helped her. This helped her select good movies and performance oriented roles,

2. Her significant improvement in acting, when she started out she wasn't that good of an actress but then with time she improved. Those who watched lafingey parindey could see that. If you compare her OSO with her LP performance, you can see the improvement and then finally Cocktail happened and with cocktail she proved everyone that she is one brilliant actress then YJHD CE RL made her point even stronger. From not so good actress to an Amazingly brilliant actress, I am sure the journey for her wasn't easy but she did it.

3. Back to back hits, to survive you need to give hits and that's what deepika did. 5 back to back hits, cocktail, race, YJHD, CE, RL. All these hits proved that not only she's a great actress but a star as well. So back to back hits helped her getting star power.

4. Beauty, let's get real to survive in bolly an actress needs to have beauty and Deepika was always beautiful so her beauty helped her a lot. It helped her getting offers. Which is quite important to survive in Bollywood. So her beauty played a huge part as well.

5. Debut with SRK: having a dream debut with one of the biggest superstar of the country can be very beneficial. OSO was perfect debut. She debuted as a dream girl.

I am not gonna mention Her PR or her relationships. Actually I feel her PR is doing more harm to her than good. PR and relationships can give news but not success. Deepika got success because of her dedication, hardwork, improvement in acting, back to back hits, her beauty and debut with Srk.

I was not on any forum in 2007. But I remember DPad being in news 24/7 on every channel and paper thanks to link ups with high profile men be it cricketers (Yuvi, MSD), business scions (Mallya jr) or filmy scion (Ranbir).

Star news, Headlines today used to cover her 24/7!😆 Whether attending matches or sporting that RK tattoo.

Movies, beauty, hardwork have their role but no one can discount her love life keeping her on top of minds even when her movies were not worthwhile.

The same thing that made SRK, Aish, Salman, Kat, Big B, etc. famous. Films + looks + opportunity + luck +PR and image. It's all forces joined together and working together. I don't know why Deepika gets such hoopla for her PR when nearly everyone's PR at some point or another has been overactive. That's what they are paid to do. Besides, she's always in the news and getting great projects so good for her.

But the one performance of her that basically sold as her an actress: Cocktail. Changed her career and I can't believe it's been 2 years since then. She has certaintly grown as an actress and taken good risks.

As for he BF part, her and Ranbir benefit equally from that publicity.

Hard work, dedication.

Improved talent.

Little to no competition amongst her contemporaries.

Poor, beautiful, madly in love GF cheated on by the big, bad heartthrob casanova image. Even Deepika fans have admitted it made her more desirable.

Ambitious nature (she's intelligent).

OVERACTIVE PR (one that even lobbies for films already signed by other actors!).

She had all the hype initially that worked for her. Prakash Padukone's daughter, debut with SRK, plus the OSO vs Saawariya clash. After that her and Ranbir were talked about for a long time while her acting was written off.

I think the biggest change for her in the last 2 years was obv acting and she proved a lot of people wrong. No one expected her to act well. She used to be called a wooden plank so when she pulled off a Cocktail, YJHD even though some did not find her that great she surprised most people that had written her off. . Her acting plus back-to-back hits worked wonders for her, because even though Katrina was ahead of her in terms of BO she could never act, so this was a major plus point for DP as well.

It will be interesting to see how long this phase lasts...
