Like others, I too don't blame Kunti for abandoning Karna, but I agree w/ Panchaali & Sayanee that the manner in which she did it was infanticidal. She could have been like Maneka and dropped him @ a rishi's ashram, or handed him over secretly to a neighboring prince. That would have been a win-win solution for both.

But leaving him in a basket in the river - he could easily have been eaten by crocodiles or tipped over & drowned. The kavach was not a life-jacket. Adiratha finding that basket & taking Karna home doesn't exculpate Kunti of anything: what if there had been no Adirath? In Vana Parva, Kunti describes how she had spies follow the course of Karna in the river and where he landed. She couldn't have asked one of them to just take him & keep him safe? The more I read & learn about Kunti's behavior vis a vis Karna, the more despicable she is.

I guess not much should have been expected from the shameless harlot who remained in Hastinapur after her DIL disrobing was attempted and her sons went into exile. Yeah, Yudisthir listened to Vidura, but Kunti could have ordered him to arrange for her moving to Purujit for those 13 years, and returned to her sons only after the war (or join them @ Abhimanyu's wedding)
