Surbhi Jyoti
What made you accept the role of a narrator in the serial?
I have always wanted to be an RJ. But then soap happened and my dream of RJ got sidelined. When I was approached for this role, I couldn't stop myself. As a narrator I can re-live my dream of an RJ. I am excited to be a part of this show. Although we have shot for only two episodes, I feel at home.
Will the tone of narration be sombre?
I am not going to get too carried away with the script. Since it is the first time I am attempting a narration, I have decided to stick to the script and not experiment. Having said that, going by the nature of the serial, I can't be completely over-the-top bubbly. I will try to be normal and serious.
You play a go-getter inQubool Haiand now this role as a narrator of love crimes. Does this transition disturb you?
I never let any character get to me. I have a knack of switching on and off in a jiffy. When I am in the sets ofQubool Hai(QH), I am in Sanam's shoes when the director says action'. On the sets ofPyar Tune Kya Kiya(PTKK), I am the narrator only for that time.
Any particular role that you wish to do in TV?
There are many. But I am happy with what I have in my kitty. Both QH on Zee TV andPTKKhave given me a platform from where I can reach new heights. I don't believe in doing 50 things at one time, so I am content.
What are your expectations fromPTKK?
It is not the regular kitsch that is served in the name of crime shows. It has original content and shown in a realistic way. The treatment given is what makes it different. When people fall in love they do strange things. Not every time can you blame the criminal for committing a heinous crime. Sometimes, it is the circumstance that plays the big villain. Much likeGhajniwhere the sympathy lies with Aamir Khan who was avenging a crime against a woman he loved.

What has kept you busy all this while?
I have been doing some shows off and on but I was on a short break. Just getting somethings in order. I have also completed a shoot for a film to be released next year. It is an interesting movie, I can't reveal anything much about it at this stage.
Why did you give your nod to an off beat role as a narrator inPTKK?
For me, the content has to be interesting. I do not so much care about screen time or production house or co-stars et al. I foundPTKK'sconcept to be strange but appealing at the same time. I have been a VJ so narration is not going to be a challenge. Also, I like experimenting, this seemed to be the perfect platform.
The stories are based on real-life takes. Are you also going to be adding your perspective?
Absolutely not. I am not a judge and will refrain from passing any personal comment. The show is about the story and the circumstance that lead to a person to become evil. It is for the audience to decide who or what they think is the real criminal. It is a very open-ended conclusion that the show will bank on.
Do you think there is scope for such shows to thrive in India?
PTKKis new for the Indian television audience so only time will tell whether the show will strike a right chord or not. For the time being, the production house is testing waters with 13 episodes. If the show is received well, they may consider extending it or come up with new seasons.
