The actress will co-produce Madhur Bhandarkar's Madamji.
It's official. Priyanka Chopra is not only starring in Madhur Bhandarkar's Madamji but also co-producing the film with Bhandarkar Entertainment.
Madamji, which narrates the story of an item girl-turned-politician, will mark the actress' debut as a film producer.
So what made Priyanka come on board as a producer?
A source close to the film told Mirror, "Priyanka and Madhur had a meeting before she left for Barcelona to shoot for Zoya Akhtar's Dil Dhadakne Do. She told Madhur that she has been thinking about getting into film production for some time now. So why not start with Madamji? Madhur was impressed and agreed immediately."
This is also the first time that Madhur has repeated an actress. His last film with Priyanka, Fashion, won her a National Award for Best Actress, among other honours.
To create Priyanka's character in Madamji, Madhur has borrowed bits-n-pieces from the lives of several women chief ministers.
Added the source, "Priyanka hails from UP and wanted to do a film where she can mouth dialogues in her native dialect. This made Madamji special for her."
As reported by Mirror on March 10, the National Award-winning filmmaker will have to wait till mid-October to start shooting with Priyanka even though he had earlier planned to roll in May. The actress had informed him that she can only take up the role after wrapping up the shoot of Dil Dhadakne Do and Oomung Kumar's Mary Kom.
Meanwhile, Madhur's next, Calendar Girls, starring five new girls, goes on floors in June end. The film will be shot in India and Spain.
Like Calendar Girls, Madamji too will be a medium-budget film and Bhandarkar plans to wrap it up by the end of this year.
Bhandarkar and Priyanka remained unavailable for comment.
